I’m thinking about getting the “old" 3007WFP because of the current prices but I’m wondering if it might be worth it to spend the $400 or so more to get the new model or the new HP LP 3065. I don’t really see the 92% color gamut as a big selling point to me. I would basically be buying the newer model in 3007WFP-HC case in the hope that they have worked out all the bugs from the older model, especially since I’ve read that the backlight is the only major difference between the two.

In reading forums around the net it seems that some of the older 3007s may still have some of the issues users talk about including:

  • Substantual backlight unevenness – Some say that a specific revision took care of this – some say it’s still randomly out there & some say that it improves over time.
  • Issues with the power button not working sporadically.
  • The well documented noise issue – which may or may not actually affect the person using the monitor even if the monitor does have this problem.
  • There may be others I haven’t seen out there.

I know that the monitor has gotten good reviews for the majority & I am by no means trying to put it down. I can live with a few dead pixels or a little backlight bleed or whatever also if need be, but I hate the thought of potentially having to playing the return game several times to get a possibly refurbished one that may or may not be marginally better than the original.

On the other hand is dealing with the new models & the bugs they might have. I don’t know much at all about HP’s monitor history either.

What to do, what to do?

I'd save money and get the current version, just because I don't think the new version's specs are $400 better. You could always buy the current version, see if any of the issues you mentioned affect you, and return the monitor for a refund if they do, can't you? I wouldn't take a refurbished monitor if I was laying down over $1000.

I have the same concerns as you do, and I am waiting for further review while exerting my patience.

If I only Mr. Emmet could fix the fluxkompensator so I could borrow his De Lorean ...

I also consider the Nec 2690 which seems to be a great monitor, the pixel count could be higher thought.

I have the same dilemma. Seems to be a common one these days :)

But another concern I have is that the 30" high resolution is going to make it tough to game on....meaning I'm probably going to need to have some serious hardware to drive a game like Crysis at that high a resolution.

The 27" Dell seems perfect for me with the lower poly count (for gaming)...but I'm not going to pay more money for a smaller monitor that is arguably of lesser panel quality (s-ips vs. p-mva?).

Good point on getting a refund if need be! I forgot about that option. I've read that this is the only way to be assured that you get a new one if you have problems. Get a refund & then order another.
