3 Disk SSD RAID 0 setup question

I have the option of using 2 PNY XLR8 PRO 240GB HD & one Samsung 830 256GB or trading the 830 for another PNY to make all the disks in the array the same.

I've tested the drives and the write speeds are about 250MB/s which would be 6Gbps over the three disks
My 830 averages read speeds of 360MB/s & write speeds of 330Mb/s
the PNY averages 275MB read & 250 write.

Would there be benefit to having all 3 disks the same? The Samsung seems to be the better drive but if I can put 3 in RAID then that should obviously be faster.

Does anyone have any suggestions on this?
 
When running RAID0 in particular it's usually best practice to run the same drives from the same manufacturer, from the same generation, of the same size. Of course that's not always possible, but I don't think SSD's suffer from the same issues as hard drives do, which is where they methodology came from. Besides losing space, your speeds will be combined so you're not necessarily losing anything else.

Most benefits to running the same drives are for stability and troubleshooting issues. You wont really gain or lose anything either which way. Hard drives are another issue because they're mechanical.

My question to you would be is the difference that noticeable going from 1 SSD to 2-3 in RAID0? You're really living on the edge with RAID0 and the old saying of not if, but when they crash is true. With SSD's coming along I can't see ever going back to RAID0 unless I had to just because it will be a PITA when something happens. Then again it may help drastically with wear leveling.
 
My recommendation is don't bother with RAID 0 for SSD's. It helps with regular hard drives, but doesn't help with SSDs in terms of access times and random read/write. Put them in RAID 0, and you won't see any changes in random read/write from single drive.
 
SSD's fail at about the same rate as HDDs (in enterprise environments anyway) so going 3 in RAID 0 is just asking for data loss. You would be better off selling those and getting a 500GB or 750GB single drive as those generally have higher IOPS.
