i dont even know what that deals with...

but i keep having about a 2.96v and its giving my comp problems. sometimes wont even boot up.

i just installed a new 3.06 processor.

550w PS.

sorry so short and vague but im not even sure what that voltage deals with so any idea on how to fix that would be much appreciated.
 
More information about the rest of the components of the system are nessisary, along with the specifications of the PSU, and perhaps the brand. I'm assuming you used a software program to get that readout. what software was it? And, if you have the expertice, bust out the VOM and get in there and actually measure the voltage from the PSU itself, rather than just reading data that can be wrong from software. The assumption that the +3.3v rail is giving you problems may prove to be correct, but until we know more, that is a shaky assumption. Also, 2.96 isn't really that bad. it's barely within 10%, which some consider acceptable regulation for a PSU...
 
Well a good PSU like an Antec or Fortron shoudln't ever drop down that low. Just because your PSU is 550w doesn't mean anything. Noone needs that much power anyways. I would suggest grabbing a good 350w-430w Antec or Fortron PSU. Power Supplies have a combined 3.3v and 5v line so even if they support 200w on each line but have a combined output of only 250w, guess how much wattage your actually going to get?
 
it is an antec 550.

but i think i found the problem it is the TRUE CONTROL series i bought of someone on here.

it has it where you can adjust the voltages up front and i didnt have it hooked up. i thought it would work like a normal PSU if you didnt have it hooked up. appearantly not. i plugged it in and the voltages righted themselves again. i think its kinda crappy that if somone doesnt want this huge thnig that takes up a whole 5.25 bay that they are screwed. other than that no probs.
 
I knew it came with a front panel for the 5.25" bay but i never knew you had to have it hooked up in order from the PSU to work right. I thought it was just an extra option.
 
thats exactly what i would have thought. and maybe thats how it REALLY is, and mine is just giving low voltages. i dunno. i tried it again w/ out the voltage adjustment tool hookd up and again my voltages were low.
 
....until you measure those voltages with a decent digital volt-ohm-meter, frankly you have no idea what they really are. While quite good at showing relative differences, Vcc readouts from the MoBo / BIOS are notoriously inaccurate, absolute value wise. My +12 reads consistantly +11.45V but my trusty Fluke shows me that it's really +12.15V......
