Hey everyone, I have this problem with installing a second harddrive on my computer. Its a 5 year old harddrive from my dads old computer that i want to use for data storage on my computer (Dell Dimension 4300, currently 40 gb, and the other harddrive is 75 gb). Whenever i install it (connect power and ribbon cable) it doesn't seem to be able to read both of the drives, only one. When i connect the 40 gb drive as the master drive (the one originally in the comp) and the other as the slave, it doesn't read either of them. But when i switch it around, it reads the 75 gb one (has old version of Win ME on it) but it wont fully start up.

Any tips would be very well appreciated.

sorry for my computer illiteracy, but what is CS and where do I set them to this?

You need to set the jumpers on the drive. I recommend against cable select. Set one drive to master, put on the end of the cable, set other drive to slave put on middle connector and you should have no problems from there. Oh, and set the bios to autodetect the drives for quickest results.

how do I set the jumpers? Is it just flipping a switch or something of that sort.

also, Thanks for all the great info

nevermind, got the jumpers set and am in the process of formatting the harddrive. Thanks for everyone's help :)
