When it comes to video card reviews, it seems that everything is about the 3D stats. What happened to 2D perfomance? It used to be a big deal back in the day.

If I wanted a video card for watching movies or editing images rather than playing the latest games, there is really no place to get advice. What would you guys recommend?
 
The new cards from ati and nvidia use a 400mhz ramdac. It's very similar to the ones matrox uses and is the big reason everyone thought they had such great 2d quality for a long time.
 
With RAMDAC being a Digital-to-Analog Converter, does it still matter if you are using DVI?
