is 290x pcie3 capable card? because gpuz shows it's running 16x pcie v2.0 in a pcie v3 slot,
wondering why and how i can make it run in v3 mode, thanks

it's a p9x79, it has pcie3, i might not notice a difference, but i'm wondering why it's not running in pcie3 mode

yeah that board does have pcie3.0 but when you're at desktop running gpuz it might not be running at full speed. click the ? beside the bus speed and start the speed test. see if it goes up. my 280x used to do this, drop from 2.0 to 1.0 while idle but not anymore, not sure why...
if not you can either check the bios for pcie settings(unlikely), update to the newest bios available(if you haven't, you should) or not worry about it. I would use a combo of option two and three....

have the mobo bios up to date, and in the bios it's set to pcie gen3, gpuz shows 1.1 and 2.0 when i run the animation under ? , same when playing a game

that's what my setup used to do! but I only have pcie2.0. I'm running windows 10 insider and the new 16.3 drivers and i just noticed, while trying to help you, that mine now stays at 2.0. weird!?
what os and drivers you using? maybe check TPU for a gpu bios update... It should be pcie3.0 even with the oldest bios. the card is in the top slot, right?

It happens a lot with GPU-Z, I wouldn't worry about it. Nothing is wrong with your system.

yeah it's in the top slot and it's the only pcie card, driver 16.2.1, 2012 server(aka win8.1) there is a newer video bios but i don't really want to mess up my card by flashing wrong one, i just fried one few days ago

then update to 16.3 and call it a day. if its a known issue with gpuz no need to worry about it. I never have.
