I know someone that is selling a 2900gt for $95, they only used on with linux so they were not able to tell me how well it performs with games. I was wondering if anyone could tell if its worth the 95 over my current 7900gs card? Specificly crysis and such newer games?
 
i wasn't able to find any benchmarks for it, but how well do you think it will run ut3 and crysis?
 
Similar to the 2900XT or 3850 scores but a little slower. It has 256megabit memory bus like the 3850 but with slower ram and core. It's only got 240 instead of 320 stream processors.
Nice card for $95 though. :eek:

fake edit: It's a lot faster than an X1950pro.

Actually, it's not. It's about even with the X1950 Pro and trades blows with the 8600 GTS most of the time. But for $95, it's a good buy.

In UT3 it does quite well, but forget about Crysis. You should be able to play it, with all settings set to medium, but at a low resolution, such as 1024x768. Performance would still be very bad.

I beg to differ-I play crysis on my much slower 7800gt with everything set to high except for shaders (medium) and post processing (low) at 1024x768. The game never dips below 20fps.
 
i could play crysis on med at 1680x1050 on my old 7900gs

I have a hard time believing that, but it would help knowing the rest of your system. On my rig (in sig), I can play more or less ok, during the first few levels. After that, it's almost a slideshow @ 1024x768, with most settings medium and the rest at high. At any rate, 20 fps is not good.

Not sure how it would be even with an X1950pro, considering that is a stripped down R580 and the 2900GT is a stripped down R600. But they do seem closer than I thought in some games so I guess saying it's "a lot" faster is an overstatement. ;)

E4300 @ 3.4ghz, 2gb ballistix @ 500mhz, aw9d-max.

I will admit that during the first frozen island scene the framerate started dipping below 15fps and I had the set the shader setting to low in order to get the framerates back up to a smooth level. After that, I turned it back to medium and the game ran normal as usual. Even though the game was a bit choppy, I still enjoyed it :)
