So I just got back from the field for the night, and lo and behold, my monitor has gone crazy. it's a Hannspree HF289HJB that I bought about a year ago.

Basically, the monitor goes to "power save" mode and won't wake up with the mouse or keyboard. i turned the monitor off and on, and it showed just a big red screen before going back to powersave mode. when i hit menu buttons, the red shows up, then back to powersave mode. after turning it off and playing with it, it now cycles between red, green blue, white, white/black gradients, and gray, and then repeats, over and over without stopping, and no button changes it.

i know it's the monitor and not the video card (4850) because it does the same thing with nothing plugged into it. it's like it's in some kind of uninterruptable test mode.

does anybody have any experience with this or know how to fix it? thanks in advance!

There's a special service menu that has a "Burnin" option that, when enabled, does a similar behavior on my Hanns-G when the computer goes to sleep (the LED turns purple and the screen cycles RGBMCYKW), . Maybe you accidentally turned it on somehow.

hmm, that's interesting - do you by chance know the procedure to turn it on and off? since hanns-g and hannspree are the same thing, maybe i can figure out how to do it myself. but i don't see any service menues come up :(

also, the display apparently still works, since it cycles through the colors...?

On mine, holding down Adjust + Menu at the same time enables the service menu.

However, as long as I'm getting a signal from the computer, the color cycling doesn't appear. It only does it when there's no signal. So it may be that the inputs part of your monitor has gone bad (as mine is in the process of doing).

I believe Hanns has a 3yr warranty on the parts and labor and 1 yr on the panel.
