2707 or 3007?

I'm probably going to wait until the end of the month until they've officially released the 3007-HC which means they're not trying to shift an excess of old 3007's and will hopefully have some better deals.

I just wanted to say that here in Spain, the HC is officially out, posted on the web which says that ships in "5-7 days", the final price (taxes and shipping) is 1823€, while the 2407 has 25% off and costs 787€.

Also, Remember that if you go with dell outlet your are given a mere 90 day warrenty. Kind of scary to pay $1000 dollars for a refurb item and only have a 90day warrenty.

Just thought I'd give you an update. I tried going through the checkout process at the DellOutlet to see what type of warranty options there were on the 3007 (non-HC version). The monitor appears to come with a 1 yr ltd-warranty w/ advanced exchange or you can pay $25 extra for the 3 yr warranty. So with the 3 year warranty the price comes up to $1075. Still a pretty good deal.

That's good to know, they've obviously got a surplus of old models in the UK because we've still got the "Call us to order" on the 3007 page. I'll keep doing my research and probably get a few quotes from Dell over the course of the month and see where the price stands at the beginning of March.

However, I was initially quoted £1299(I think ) for the 30" and by the end of the conversation it was down to £1199. Not a price I really wanted to pay but it was better than the first price The best way is to simply ask "Is that the best price you can do?", we all know they've got some latitude with the prices, but the more they take off, the more commission they've lost.

End of the month is also a good time to call as they've almost certainly got quotas to meet and maybe you'll get the sales person who needs a few more sales to hit their quota for the month. Although it's pain going through the call centres, it's definitely worth it. You just need to get the right sales person on the right day.
hanks for the reply.

I was in fact thinking about the non-HC model. I wonder as the closer they get to the new model release here in the U.S. they will deal more on price on the older model if they have any left?

Though I use Photoshop a lot, with all the conflicting info out there about high Gamut advantages/disadvantages, I don’t know that I think the newer model will be worth the price premium over the older non-HC model to me if it’s more than several hundred dollars. On the other hand, if someone knows that the older model is still a crapshoot for quality (is it?) & the newer is better overall for unit quality, not just the wider Gamut…

If they all of a sudden lowered the newer model price to the older models price…

From all the reviews I've read the 3007wfp is still a great monitor. The only issue people seem to have is the lack of inputs other than DVI. If you're only going to be using the monitor for gaming and general computer use it should be a great monitor.

Considering the 27" is already over $100 more than the 30" I believe the new HC 30" will be somewhere around $1800. If I can pick up at 3007wfp for $700-$800 less than the new 30" that will certainly be my choice.

Thanks for the reply & I agree with everything you said. I have a 7900GS right now, but I do very little gaming. Mostly LightWave 3D/Vue Infinite & Photoshop.

I'm a web designer and I also do some 3D and Flash animation. The high resolution of the 3007 is like having two 1280x1600 monitors side by side. I spend much less time dealing the Windows interface because I can usually make almost everything visible at the same time.

Check the main displays forum for a new thread I'm starting about this.

Okay, the HC has finally made and appearance in the UK at £1260. Actually lower than I was expecting (think the original 3007 debuted at £1400) but I can afford to wait it out and hope for a price drop on either the 2707 or a special deal to come along in a month or two.

If I can reshuffle my workspace to allow a little more space, I think the 30" will win the day because quite frankly it would be great to have the extra resolution.

Okay everyone, I finally pulled the trigger on the 3007-HC. Pretty scary but it had to be done really, I just need to get a bigger desk now ;)

Dell are doing a promotion on this monitor in the UK at the moment at £950 which is a pretty big drop from £1264 anyway. Final price ended up at £879 inc delivery and warranty etc after a bit of haggling. Should be here next week so I'll post some pics of my ludicrously overcrowded desk once it's all set up.

I'm going to buy a cheap Dual Link graphics card this week and my alt+tab keys can look forward to a greatly reduced work load :D Feels nice to be part of the club

I can't speak from first hand experience(I just killed this post right there) :), but based on the numbers and reviews, and discounting cost and flexibility, the Dell and HP 30" displays are great for gaming at their native resolutions, but I would have some concerns about them running at lower resolutions for games not supporting anything beyond 1600x1200(and there are a lot of them) due to their size.

Then there are weirdos like me that on top of their primary workstation, still have a legacy workstation running an AGP board and two Voodoo 2 boards for older flight sims such as Jane's F-15 and Longbow 2, etc. that absolutely have to have a hardware level scaler, since maintaining aspect can't be handled at the software level with those older boards and that's not present on the 30" models. It's this reason that I may be forced to go with the Dell 2707. If the 30" inchers had hardware level scaling, I would get one in a heartbeat over the 2707.

So in short, the 30" incher is great for gaming, but you are probably more limited on the number of game titles that make it great.

Can someone tell me Why is a 30" LCD Monitor, NO good for gaming

Native resolution on the 30" Dell (and most other 30" as far as I'm aware) is 2560x1600, that's a lot of pixels to be pushing around. As such you need a monster of a machine to take full advantage of the resolution and any eye candy. If you can afford to build the machine, gaming at 30" is probably phenomenal.

However, I don't game on my PC so thankfully that's not a problem for me. I'm going to put a 7600GS in my machine for £80 (which is Dual Link) and just enjoy the extra real estate.

a 30 incher is great for gaming if your video card(s) can puch that kind of resolution. I used a 3007 for a few months and I loved it.

Is there anyway you can damage or cause a dead pixel to appear if you play games everyday with high resolution or at 1280 x 1024 resolution, 4 to 6 hours a day.

I honestly don't know, but I highly doubt you would create a dead pixel just by using 1280 x 1024 instead of 2560 x 1600. Might want to ask an expert on panels about that, but I doubt it.

Hey guys, I just bought the Dell 3007 HC and it is beautiful. At first, when I put it on desk I thought it looked HUGE. But now, after three days, I am completely accustomed to it and totally spoiled by it. Having this much screen real estate is a real treat. I can multitask with the greatest of ease.

I am also a bit of a gamer and love a few games of Battlefield 2 here and there. Well, this screen made the game come alive! All I can say is wow.

My system is decent, but certainly not the latest and greatest. However, I did buy a new vid card just for this monitor, NVidia 7950 GT, to get dual-link DVI connection.

Have you got BF2 running at the native res? All you need to do is change the Target path of your BF2 shortcut as follows:

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 2560 +szy 1600

To check your framerate in game, call down the console with the tilde (top left key, next to "1") then type renderer.drawfps 1 and hit enter

Yes, I've done the BF2 shortcut mod, but thanks for posting the tip for others to see. I have not checked framerate yet. I'm gonna do that right now. I'm curious.......

UPDATE: checked the framerate. I am getting 30 to 60 FPS at native resolution with 2x AA turned on. Seems smooth to me. Does it record the framerate somewhere? It took me a couple of minutes to actually spot the framerate numbers, because at the native resolution (2560 x 1600) the numbers were so damn tiny, LOL. I kept punching in the code and thought it wasn't working, then finally I squinted and saw the tiny numbers...........

My system is Asus A8N SLI Deluxe mobo, 2GB Patriot DDR ram, 7950 GT vid card and AMD 3500+ 2.2 GHz CPU. I recently upgraded the vid card and ram, but not the CPU yet. Still, the game is so smooth and good-looking that I am in no hurry to get a new CPU now.

Well, Dell certainly didn't mess around with delivery :D It arrived this afternoon and I'm now basking in 2560x1600 goodness. As everyone else has said, its BIG!! Actually no, it's MAHOOSIVE!!

Gonna take me a few days to get used to turning my head to traverse the screen but overall, I'm VERY impressed.
