270/270x UNDER $230 watch thread

You guys think that one could run 3 regular 270s and a real basic computer off of a 750w PSU?

Yeah, no problem, as long as it's a quality PSU. I've got a mining rig with 3 270s and two additional 120mm fans on a 750W Bronze PSU and it's pulling 550W from the wall. Even if it's 85% efficient at that load, that means it's only putting out ~468W. I'd have no qualms putting a 4th card on there.

Yes, three 270x's draw under under 700 watts AC from the wall overclocked at the very most. That would mean you using 650watts DC power internally. Be sure you are using a quality power supply.

Nice deal on those MSI cards. All of mine do 470khs @ i19 / 1100/1250 clocks. Individual card pull @ those settings is a bit high at 135w per.

I am investigating a friend's claim that he pulls 100w per card @ 1000/1250/1.0v stable for ~430khs.

FWIW I have a gigabyte 270 stable at 1.0v running at ~465kh. I havent checked the power draw, but I don't think 100w is to far of a stretch.

I am about to do a 1.0v bios on these 270s. I'll know for sure in about 15 minutes.

"If" it does turn out to pull ~430khs @ 1000/1250/1.0v then that is certainly much better khs/watt ratio than 135w per @ 1100/1250 for 470khs.

---- This was all done using one of my 5 card 270 rigs with the Celeron g1610 chip.
---------1010/1250 puts out 430khs @ i19 @ 102w per. System idle is ~110w, total power draw at wall is 620w. 5 card draw is ~510w. Total hash is ~2.15mhs. KHs/watt per card is 4:1+.

Unless you're cashing out your coins right away, don't get too hung up on squeezing out every last bit of hash/Watt efficiency. If you're in it for the long haul, you're better off with a higher hash rate. ie. If the price of BTC goes up 20%, you'll have been much better off having mined more coins.

I totally agree with your point, but when we're talking about a full factor then in my mind it is totally worth it.

I wouldn't bother at all if all i knew i could get was maybe a tiny tenths factor improvement, but going above that 1:1 point where it starts costing a watt per khs is wasting money.

Out of my 5 270s, only one will do 1100/1500 (Elpida RAM) at 1.138v stable. That's about 475 hash give or take 3. The remaining 4, only one with Hynix (1250 mem clock) need 1.163 or 1.188 (stock) to approach 1100 core stable. Those range from 1060 to 1085 core clock. They'll do 465 on the low end and 475 on the high end. The 2 with 1.138v show 326W from the wall with a gold rated PSU. Total system power consumption is 850W. Powertune is set to 0. I'm highly skeptical of 100W unless it's a golden chip.

I'm convinced it's better to just sit at 1050-1080 core and lower the voltage as much as possible. The extra 10-20 hash isn't worth 10-20W. Dropping from 1.188v to 1.138v saved about 14W per card.

Well, until I turn off the heat (and this year, it's looking like it might be a while), I'm not going to worry too much about power use.

Probably a toss-up among Gigabyte, MSI, ASUS DCII, and Sapphire Vapor-X.

I would stay away from MSI the fans they use while quiet fail quickly or so I was told always the one by the ports too.

Got any source on this?

Yes, me.

Half my MSI cards spend more time in RMA then actually mining and I have nearly a dozen. All of them but 1 the fans have failed on.

And...my XFX DD cards are by far the quietest fans of any of the cards I have ( I have 5 of them in 1 rig and you can barely hear it). The Gigabyte and Sapphire cards are pretty quiet as well though.

I have yet to send any of my MSI 270s in yet... but i've already got a couple cards whose RPMs appear wonky at times.

No outright failures... yet.

right now its for heat... that added power once it gets hot out becomes massive since you are then also doing so much more cooling

Did some Googling last night and definitely looks like it's a widespread problem. The fans on oretty much all of the recent Twin Frozr cooler cards appear to be running on borrowed time. Lots of reports of the oil draining out of the bearings and fans seizing up.

Ya'll stop it. Scaring me. :(

I've got 10 of these MSI 270 cards!

my MSI 270 just came today, gonna throw it in my amd rig to complete that one, i'm hoping it holds up! If anything I really like the look of the MSI gaming cards, just a shame that the fan motors don't seem to be of good quality. I got my fingers crossed.

My sapphire just came now to shoe horn it into one of those old antec cases that were so popular 15 years ago I think I may loose the lower hard drive cage to it...

what 270/270x gpu I shall buy with 150-200 usd?

Personally, whatever is cheapest and not MSI (at least until they get their fan durability issues sorted) and has a dual fan cooler. All of the dual fan setups work plenty well, especially since you're going to want to look at undervolting the core as much as possible to cut down on power consumption.

That said...

Open Box PowerColor 270Xs on newegg for $168 right now. - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131532R

So...have you even looked at the last 15 posts or so?

Would not buy.

And anyway, that's a stupid high price for a vanilla 270.

Wow, $260?! Newegg is up to their crap again. Without clicking the listing, the price for that card says $189 - click it and it shoots up to $259. Nice. You can get 7950s cheaper than that!

Rickyman123 - Check out this Sapphire Dual-x 270. It's $189. Or this Asus DirectCUII variation. It's $199. I've got a couple of the Asus models and they've been good cards.

MSI R9 270 GAMING 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

what do u guys think about this card?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127769

is it loud or quiet for stock setting?

I got the same card, EXACT same card from newegg for 189, minus 6%, minus another 3% (fatwallet/chase), Free shoprunner shipping, and no tax. Cost to my door: $172 per card.

The fans might suffer issues -- I've only had the two cards active for a day.... will see how they perform in the coming months. For the price and the hash rate/power consumption they can't be beat.

I have 2 of the MSI 270s and they've been running fine 24/7 for about a month now. No issues at 40% fan speed.

Keep in mind that Fleabay 7950s (likely used for mining), are closing in on the $200 mark. R9 280s (7950s) sit @ the $300 price mark.

With that in mind, i would not even consider paying more than $200 for a 270...and even $200 is right at the line.

7950s will do 650khs+ @ ~200w and have near the same khs/watt ratio as the 270.

Edit: The R9 280s are here.
