256mb or 128mb

Much slower clocks on the 256MB version is the difference...


Get the 128m version... :) Unless you are planning on overclocking, that 256m card just might overclock like a beast. You never know :D

One is a 6600, and one is a 6600 GT. Your argument is like saying you'd take a 5200 128mb over a 5200 Ultra with 128. The GT is much faster, period.
 
I would get the 256meg version, especially if it ddr3 like on the 6800gt...
 
Go for the GT.
The difference is in the core and memory speeds.
Sure one has 256mb, but 256mb comes into use and benefit when running higher resolutions and high AF/AA. Something that those cards can not do.
A higher clocked card would benefit you the most at that range.
 
256MB vs 128Mb vs 64Mb....

Its marketing buzzwords... & bullshit.

You need a high-end GPU to really be able to use 256Mb.... so if you buy some bullshit FX5200 with 256MB its only faster when you turn up the settings so high that both versions 128 and 256Mb are at slideshow fps rates.

a 6600 is about where you could actually start using 256Mb, but usually its... 256MB of slower ram vs 128MB of faster ram. 90% of the time the faster 128Mb will win. And usually the only time the 256Mb wins is at a really high resolution/game setting where your FPS are really too low anyway.

Look at a 6800nu, it has 128Mb of ram and its fast enough for everything.

Whats the matter you dont have $650 for a videocard?

Because they're bloody IDIOTS who don't read the actual items, or buy the marketing BS.

It's like a 6800NU with 256mb (if such a beast exists) and the 6800GT with 128mb (again, if it exists). for 90% of the stuff out there, the Gt will be a good deal faster.

eVGA and ASUS both have 256MB 6800nu's both are priced as high as a 6800GT so there's absolutely no point in getting them.

And noone makes a 128MB 6800GT. (except RivaTuner! :) -softmod )

If I had a 6800nu to test(softmod), I would downclock my 6800GT to the same speeds and show you the difference at 128Mb & 256Mb

A 6800GT with 128mb is faster than a 6800GT at NU speeds with 256mb of ram. That's the point, and you missed it. OR: Those 256mb NU's at stock speeds are slower than a normal 6800NU with 128mb at GT speeds.

Get the GT, the non-gt is slower, even with the extra ram.

I get it, thats why I said there's no point in getting a 256Mb 6800nu.

The 6800 128Mb would beat the 9800XT, 6600, 5900U etc... all with 256Mb's.
Though a 6800GT would be it.... but not due to the memory but do to the faster clocks.

THough it would be interesting to see what the difference in a GT run at 6800nu speeds, vs a softmodded 6800nu. To see at what point the extra ram would help.

As for the 6600 & X700's the 128Mb versions have faster ram and are faster.

My point was to ignore the marketing bs about Mb.....
