I'd get the 6800 b/c of that. After it's overclocked it could reach near 6800GT specs. How's that for $150-190!

not to start a flame war/ethics battle/etc; but...... that comment about returning it to get one that unlocks...... no wonder we have to pay $600 for high-end video cards now..... that's all I will say about this subject........ IMHO.....

And what are you returning the card for? If it runs at stock speeds, don't return it.

I don't know how many times we've dicussed this, but here it goes again: CARD RETURNS DO NOTHING TO IMPACT THE NEXT GENERATION'S PRICE. Can everyone read that? Manufacturers punch out tens of thousands of cards, the few that are returned are neglible to the profit margin. Price is based on the cost to manufacture and the price gouging that resellers utilize.
 
I'm still not sure how the card not doing something it wasn't intended to do is grounds for returning the card though...

Me too. The reason why? I have this stupid monitor that can't go higher than 1280x960 at 72Hz. It can do 1280x1024 but only at 60Hz, and that makes my head hurt.

Want some more examples of how bad my monitor is? Well, let's see. It resizes the display based on the brightness of what's on the screen, it doesn't have enough contrast to display true white and true black at the same time, and it only has two color temperature settings, 6500K and 9300K. To my eyes, 6500K is too warm, and 9300K is too cold.

yes, but there is a negligible impact on profit margin with each fraudulant return, and multiplied it does add up to something..... besides the fact that a product is only supposed to do what the specs say, sure we like to OC and shit, but we assume the risk that it may not work; might even ruin something if we're not careful..... but most of us do not RMA a 12 pipe card if we can't get 16 pipes running correctly as if we wanted a 16 pipe card, we would have bought one...... anything more than that is a bonus, IMHO..... like my x800pro, can't do the 16 pipe mod on it, does OC to 550core/525mem easily and that is being conservative..... but I am happy with it, i'm not gonna send it back cuz the 4 pipelines that according to the specs aren't even there don't work......

dude, don't walk, run to Newegg and order you a better monitor, that one does not do justice to your system...... not flaming you, it's just that a nice system like that deserves a nice monitor......
 
My comment wasn't about RMA'ing, people RMA cards and if the manufaturer tests them out and OK's them, back they go out for sale (many times as replacements for RMA's, ironically). I was just saying that returns have "no" (or so small it doesnt count) impact on the price of NEXT generation hardware, to think that they would is ludicrous in today's economy. Read up on the companies who make these cards and you'll see what I mean^^
