Hello I just bought a Benq 23" lcd fp231w.

And now i see that the dell 2405fpw was just released.

I'm a little torn. I don't know if I should return the Benq and wait to get the dell.

I'll list the pros and cons. Maybe somebody can help me decide.

Price:

Benq $1200 US tax in

Dell ~$1200-1300 US tax in (I live in canada 15% tax and higher prices)

No advantage ==

Build quality:

Benq excelent Aluminum finish gorgeous looks.

Dell Industrial finish is cheap plastic I have a 17" at work same design just smaller. Iffy quality (might be good might not based on the 2005fp threads).

Advantage Benq.

Size:

Benq 23"

Dell 24"

Advantage Dell

Brightness/Contrast/Colors:

Benq Thats my biggest problem with the Benq It's ok. The brightness is fine and the colors are ok but compared with the samsung 213T i tested before is dim I have to run it at 90% brightness to be happy. And the reviews say that the contrast measured is 250 thats pretty low. Don't get me wrong the colors and contrast are not bad the colors are nice and brightness is fine but I have seen much better colors on the samsung screens.

Dell Is based on a samsung PVA lcd so the colors will be nicer and the contrast and brightness are much higher.

Advantage dell.

Dead/Stuck pixels, uneven blacks:

Benq The one I got has only one gray pixel on the edge of the screen and one blue subpixel dead. (The grey one is on the edge so you don't notice it and the blue subpixel is not visible except on pure blue colors). Brightness and black colors are pretty even acros the screen no spots or whiter areas.

Dell not known might get lucky and get a good one and than again based on the backlight problems with the 2005fpw ...

Advantage probably Benq.

Games/Pixel response time:

Benq 16ms is very good tried it with Farcry, WOW, and movies it has minimal ghosting.

Dell 16/12ms. I had to return the 213T because it was ghosting like crazy but thats a 2 year old technology so I hope this one is much better.

Advantage I'll believe the stats on paper and say no advantage.

So it's 2 vs 2 - Benq (build quality, design / only 1 dead pixel not visible and even blacks) vs Dell (size 1" bigger / better brightness, contrast, colors)

For me the biggest problem is all the threads I saw talking about quality issues with the dells and the headache to have it replaced especially now that it just came out.

Also knowing dell if I order now i'll get the screen in about a month if not longer.

So I'm waiting your opinions on this.

Thanks.

Well I've made my decision i've ordered the dell and i'll return the benq.
