2405FPW Flashing issue.

It's weird because I haven't seen anyone mention this, but has anyone noticed the annoying flashes/flickers during games? I get these irritating flashings/flickerings across the entire screen in WoW if I walk on any surface that reflects light (sun light or moon light). It's not ghosting because nothing's trailing, it's almost as nasty as if you are using a CRT at a very low refresh rate and very high resolution.

I don't think it's the fixed refresh rate, I have a 2005FPW as well and the image on that is as smooth as silk, none of those irritating flickers. Doubt it's a defective unit because I asked for a replacement, both panels exhibit the same behavior, with one being slightly better than the other. It's not the DVI cable, I switched to the DVI cable from 2005 and didn't make a difference. It's not the power cable or outlet, I tried it all around the house with different cables, didn't work. It's not my video card or driver, I plugged it into my other computer and it does the same thing. It's not limited to WoW only but shows up the most obvious in WoW because it's very colorful and has lots of lightings everywhere.

Love the panel in every other aspect but this issue is killing me, will have to return this bad boy if there's no solution, again my 2005 is not doing this and it's stuck at 60hz too. Very weird problem since I never saw anyone else mention this.

Anybody has any idea of what I'm talking about and what is going on? :confused:

EDIT: Forgot to mention that it's not because of the higher resolution causing lower FPS because I'm getting 40+.
 
did u try the same resolutions u had on the 2005fpw? maybe u just got an exact same dud...did u also try using the driver on the 2405 cd when u used it on the diff comp?
 
Yeah I tried different resolutions on 2405 as well as on 2005, and the results are the same. This comp was running on Dell's driver from the CD while my other comp was running on default monitor, I couldn't try any other drivers because the CD in the replacement box is empty :confused: . But since two comps had different drivers it shouldn't be that.

Yeah it's a possibility that I have two with the same defect, but it's gonna be the first in my life, lol. :D
 
I'm not sure I understand your problem? What do you mean by "flashes"? And what does "walking on a reflective surface" in WOW have to do with them?

I mean flashes by just that, flashes. for example shinning a flashlight at you and turning it off and on at an impressive speed. I chose to describe the reflective surfaces in WoW because they reflect light, and you can see the light moving and flashing as you move around.

You don't need to understand it, I just happened to notice it, for whatever reason.

A while ago I had a monitor (the first one I got, rev A01 from February 2005) that had a similar issue. There was a webpage with a gray/brownish background that would cause the screen to flicker. It only flickered on one side of the screen.

And then there was a replacement I got that would actually flicker when it was warming up from standby mode. The entire screen would be flickering on. I think the cheap components Dell uses on these monitors is really starting to show.

Well I sent Dell another e-mail telling them that the replacement didn't make much of a difference to me so they are gonna be sending me another unit sometime next week. Hopefully it'll be alright otherwise I'm calling the quits, props to Dell for having nice customer service within the first 21 days but it doesn't mean it's not tiring to deal with it. *prays*

Mine only flickers with gray/green backgrounds. white/blue/red doesn't flicker much (nothing I can tell).
