24 or 20+4?

im thinking about getting a new MoBo and i don't know if i need a 24 pin WSU or a 20+4 pin? can any1 help?

aren't they the same? with a 20+4, you still get the 4pin 12v, just like a 24pin.

Older motherboards used 20 pin connectors and psu's had a 20 pin connector. Nowadays though, pretty much all mobos use 24 pin connectors and pretty much all psu's have a 20+4 pin mobo connector. So it doesn't matter if you mobo is 20 or 24 pin.

A 20 + 4 pin power supply means it will work in both 20 and 24 pin motherboards. The 4 pin P4 is a seperate deal.

A 20+4 pin connector is a modular connector with the 4-pin portion that can be left attached to the 20-pin portion (for newer motherboards requiring a 24-pin ATX power connector) or detached from the 20-pin portion (for compatibility with older motherboards which use a 20-pin ATX power connector). In other words, there is no need to buy a separate adapter to convert a 20-pin connector to a 24-pin mobo (or vice versa); the PSU's with a 20+4 pin power connector are compatible with both newer and older motherboards out of the box.

Most PSU's on the market today come with the 20+4 pin connector (this is true with the CWT-made Antec and Seasonic-made Corsair units that I have experience with). A few PSU's are native 24-pin, but come with a 24-to-20-pin adapter.
