I hate to admit this, but I am a neophyte when it comes to serious hardware issues.
With that said, I'm here for help because so far no one esle has been able to solve this problem.
I've got a 200Gb HD (can't remember the brand off the top of my head (at work not home)) and it is having some major problems I can't fix.
When I installed the HD and set it up I put in 2 partitions. The C: drive is partitioned to 4Gb (approx) and the E: drive is partitioned for the remaining 196Gb (approx). There is also a D: drive in the equation, which is a seperate HD that is 4Gb (it's really old but works like the day it was manufactured).
I created the C: drive as a partition to match the D: drive so that I could mirror my operating system on D: so that, if C: got fragged I could still boot from D: and access everything else on E:. I ended up scrapping htis idea and now use the D: as just a backup disk.
When I did this I didn't know how much room windows XP Pro took up. Even with installing everything I could onto E: drvie, I am still almost out of room on C:, which is really annoying. Also C: drvie is horribly fragmented. I've tried defragging on numerous occasions, but normally I just get the "must have 15% disk space available to defrag properly" error. I've removed everything I don't need and even compressed the entire C: drive, but it will not defrag! Should I just remove as many apps as possible and try again, or do I need to get a 3rd party defrag tool, or do I need to use the repair function on my XP Pro disk? *shudder*
Also I want to know if there is any way I can change the sizes of the C: and E: partitions without reformatting the entire HD. I would like to increase C: to at least 10Gb so I won't run into the problem of filling it up too quickly, since I'm no longer going to mirror it on D:.
