I just got a Dell 2007FP to replace a again 2001FP. I've read through all the threads here about this LCD and those about the FWP versions as well. Would someone mind answered a stupid question for me about the banding issue which has been discussed in each thread?

What exactly do the Gaming and Multimedia modes do that is good exactly? ie. since the banding is fixed only in Desktop mode, then what is the purpose of these 2 modes? Do they engage any specific Farjouda features that *improve* some other aspects of image display at the cost of banding?

Thanks,
Steve

the Faroudja Video Processing suite is left activated in the multimedia and gaming modes so that the user has the choice of using them or not. This does have some advantages and is used in quite a lot of LCD TV's, so for gaming and movies it can have its advantages. Check the info here about what the Faroudja Video Processing offers. It was identified that elements of this was causing the banding issue, so was deactivated in the desktop preset mode, but left available in case users wanted to use it in other circumstances :)
