2005FPW Fix it yourself?

The 2005FPW backlight leakage is fringing from around the edge, not through the LCD panel. Is it possible to fix it yourself by opening the back cover and applying some Black Electrical tape around the edges, or by flexing the bezel to change the pressure along the light area?
 
If you got it from Dell send it back. If elsewhere, with risk may come reward... or not. :)
 
It's a damn shame people don't wait till Samsung releases their 21" version.

Here it is for the lazy man.. Naturally, this isn't in massproduction yet so there is a chance it may not reach that stage.

I don't know why some people will refuse to buy a Dell PC but yet, they'll get a Dell monitor.
 
one reason why people dont wait for the samsung: PRICE!

the only reason i got the 20 incher is because of the price, comparable 19" inch monitors go for a lot more than dell's. and if you manage to get your hands on a good working one, it's all the more rewarding, because the quality is great.

i get from dell because i am bum and i have alot of time on my hands as a college student. and their hassle free, but time consuming exchange, is ok for me. but if you had the money, why mess with dell, i am sure the samsung is probably just as good.

anyways, i was thinking of the same thing. the problem is, i dont think there is a way to open the damn thing. i've looked around the back, no logic screwing i can follow. plus, i think it would be fun...i find it rewarding being able to do simple fix it...when you dont screw up...

why get a dell? s-ips. Samsung, despite their great quality, is PVA.

I have both Samsung 193p and Dell 2005fpw. Dell is much better for gaming.

I dont see why that it would confuse you people dont like dell pc's but may like thier moniters. The reason I would never buy a Dell PC is because I am now a do-it-yourselfer. I would never give up complete control over what my computer is made out of or who makes it. With dell that is the only option + dell likes to design their computers with unecessarely non-standard parts, making you dependant on them. But for moniters however, have you ever heard of someone building their own moniter? I just consider A dell moniter as a nother component choice equaililant to samsung, or benq or whatever.
 
I must say that i own both Dell and Samsung monitors and my Dell is very high quality. In fact I am so impressed with it I am willing to take a chance on the 2005

Agreed, my 2005FPW is of the same quality as my Samsumg 191T, and probbably cost me about the same.
