Basically I'm looking for a GREAT 20+ inch widescreen LCD, but I'm having a tough time deciding since it seems hard to find a perfect panel. I have narrowed it down to a few options.

1) My friend has a Dell 2007WFP S-IPS and I am in love with it...however there is a panel lottery with that now, and getting one of the S-PVAs would be bad. $359 + free shipping with warranty, but if it's not S-IPS I have to pay to ship it back. And even if I do get one good one, I am doing dual monitors so I need TWO good ones.
2) Buy a Gateway FPD2185W directly from them for $449 + free shipping. Free shipping offer expires on the 24th, though. Full 1-year warranty.
3) Buy a Viewsonic vx2025wm directly from NewEgg for $339 + $15 shipping. Full 3-year warranty.
4) Buy a Dell 2005FPW (since it would be a guaranteed S-IPS) on eBay. I'm not averse to using eBay, but if it ever dies on me, I'm screwed as I probably would have no warranty.
5) Wait until some better monitors come out...

And before anyone suggests it, I am NOT spending $600+ on the NEC AS-IPS screen. I realize it's a great monitor, but it costs too much.

Thanks! :)

If it changes anything, Dell has the 21 day satisfaction guarantee... and THEY pay shipping both ways. So the lottery costs you nothing (except time!).

Ditto on the 'THEY pay shipping both ways', I did it even when I purchased my refurbed Dell 2007wfp.

Too bad it's a great deal. It's worth $750.

Recent reveiws still rave about

"Please note that we already found this IPS 6ms in another monitor, the excellent NEC MultiSync 20GX. It’s the fastest 20" but has a glossy panel, which has the unpleasant side effect of showing your reflection as soon as there is a light source in the room.:"

He always bitches about the glossy panel which I would'nt have a LCD without it so it's personal taste thing. My old AG Neuvo E19 had it too and I loved it. But besides being the fastest, colors and view angles are the best being IPS.

If thats the case I agree Dell without question since he thinks $550 is to much for a 20".I have the 2005 w/ IPS not bad. I had no back light bleed dead pixels or screen door many user complained about..hopefully these problems was fixed w/ 2007

It may be worth $750 to you but to me I would not spend that money on anything but a 24"+ display.

Bump :) I'm seriously considering going with Dell. Besides, S-IPS screens seem to be shipping more often now anyway.

You can take this for what it's worth. I picked up a 20WMGX2 at BB last week (for $600) and am still well within my return period - so I'm not attempting to self-justify a purchase. After several days use, I wouldn't trade the GX2 for any 24+ monitor I've seen (unless it had the 93% Adobe coverage - like the NEC 2690 which I can pick up locally within about two weeks - but then you're talking about a lot more money).
