ComputerWorld has their list of 20 FireFox extensions they feel no one should be without.

A freshly installed copy of Firefox is a great software package, but what makes this open-source browser so special is the ability to customize it via extensions and themes to really make it yours. The problem is, there are so many available add-ins, it's tough to know what's worth installing and what's just going to junk up your system.

I already have quite a few of them, and tried the others. I wouldn't say all of them are must-have or that no one should be without them. Some are great, but not everyone has the same needs.

Picked up Cooliris though.

(Not trying to break the rules here...)
I find that any FireFox extension list that doesn't include some type of ad blocking to be incomplete.

Yeah, I personally would like an adblock plugin that allows me to not only block pictures (I can do that with a right click), but also those shockwave/adobe flash ads that a right click only seems to bring up play/loop etc type options.

Also having a popup blocker that works would be a nice extension.. I mean sure it does sometimes work, but quite a few more times I see ads popping up or under.

greasemonkey
auto-copy
cookie safe
videodownloader
down them all!
ietab
menu editor

are likely the ones without which I couldn't exist.

I like a clean browser that simply blocks popups, which firefox/mozilla does well enough.

Their list should have included the following (my essential add-ons not including add-ons already suggested):

Bookmark Duplicate Detector

Copy Plain Text

Ebay Negs

FlashGot

Linkification

Morning Coffee

Track Package

I recommend Platypus for Greasemonkey users. It allows you to easily make your own grease monkey script without writing a word of java script.

yes i hate that shockwave shit, if adblock could totally disable the loop i would love it

all i use is:
adblock
ietab
downloadthemall
accuweather

I'm not going to list the long list of plugins I use but for ad blocking I don't use a plugin at all. I use no-ads, its a proxy script file and its already got a set of blocks added in it, you can add to it for the annoying things that it doesn't have and can block domains and down to just files, I believe you can do patterns too but I've not done many of them. There is also a nice toggle to turn it off if you believe its messing with something. Works in just about everything that takes an auto proxy config file.

One thing I hope (the mozilla foundation) adds is the features of SuperT mainly the multiple rows of tabs, if you run many tabs in a window there is just no better way to manage them all.

Lastly my mini rant: They really need to stabilize the plugin system if they make it harder to write a plugin but give it longevity then I'm all for it. I lost plugins, critical plugins from 1.5 to 2.0 and 2.0.01 even 2.0.0.2 Again cut my inventory of critical plugins and unfortunately they are no longer in development and version bumping will not fix it.

This list is nothing short of a joke without YOU KNOW WHAT (it's already been said) and cannot mention because it breaks hardocp rules.

They probably didnt list such an extension for the same reason HardOCP wont let you discuss it, because it's their soruce of income at risk. Which severly decreases the credability of the source and everything associated.

I have only 1 program they listed. Oh, and no security programs on that list? Seriously, that is retarded to not include any of those.

I'm SO lost.

How is mentioning *censored* agains't the rules? How is it their source of income? Who's income. wth???!?

Kyle has a few banner ads in place, as well as Intellitxt. The ad revenue helps fund the servers and bandwidth and stuff.

That's well and good, but I sure do enjoy the page load times with all of that coming up as blank space.......

I'm sure alluding to it is still against the rules. Good job covering it up.

I'm not covering it up, If i wanted to perfectly cover it up, I wouldn't mention it.

I'm posting without breaking the rules so as not to upset people

agreed :)

...wow. Big balls or small brains.

I'm not covering it up, If i wanted to perfectly cover it up, I wouldn't mention it.

To cover up means to put forth something to cover up in the first place. You shouldn't have mentioned it at all. Then there'd be nothing to cover up.

Ah, but you wanted to get your point across and credit yourself with having cracked the article! Bravo. Let's play Dodge The Mod.

Read-up, fellas.

The Rules said:
(23) Any discussion of AD BLOCKING software or instruction for using ad blocking regarding this forum or any other discussion in general of attempting to block advertisement will result in a no questions asked permanent ban on your account. This is not done lightly, rather deliberately to deny access to those who choose to utilize this forum, but not support our sponsors. It takes money to finance the cost of bandwidth, especially a forum of this size and if you don't care enough to support us through our advertisers, then we don't need your business. This will be the only warning with no discussion.

Holy ____.

Bet your Firefox won't be winning any races anytime soon :p

The only down side is that it uses more ram and with a* b**** running some pages slow down a bit. But in terms of funstion it unbeatable. My own comp is a northwoood but tried this on a dual core and it's smooth.

only extension i use if foxmarks bookmark synchronizer, it helps me a lot without having to save to a floppy every time i go to a new computer! that was a huge pet peeve of mine...
