20.1" vs. 19"

I'm deciding between which one i should get. This is for BOTH media and gaming, so obviously a problem is seen here.

I'm wondering just how tall is the 20.1 compared to the 19. Is it even possible that the 20.1 is tall as a 17in and is just wider? I'm looking at dells 2005fpw, and probably a samsung 19in unless the dell's 19in is better. Thanks in advance.
 
I have 2 Dell 2001fp's for about a year now. My daughter uses hers for some gaming and for everything else. I use mine for gaming. It's huge but the adjustable stand makes it versatile for your space needs.

The 2001's native 1600x1200 is ideal for gaming and now that the 2005 is out I'm sure you can get a 2001 for dirt cheap. You won't be dissapointed. But this is my opinion from a gaming standpoint. Hopefully someone with a 2005 can give you more info.
 
I totally suggest going with the 2005FPW. I don't have mine yet (ordered it last night), but widescreen is definitely worth the jump in cash. Having so much space to work with is a wonderful thing. And from what I have seen, they look great setup next to each other.But hey, it's your choice and your money. :cool:
 
just to add my $0.02 here. Most people find the 20" Dell's fine for gaming, but then there are still a few who dont find them suitable for anything too fast. The 20" market is not as fast as the modern 19" and 17" market, but whether it will be fine for you is a tough one to answer. As some pros and cons to consider i would say:

20" normal: - bigger, higher 1600 x 1200 resolution nice for office work and gaming. Perhaps some issues with your PC hardware struggling to play games at the native resolution if the pc isn't powerful enough. Not as fast as modern 17 and 19" panels like the 8ms TN and 8ms overdrive P-MVA models for instance. Perhaps not suitable for heavy gamers, all down to taste.

20" WS models - nice widescreen res for movies and work. Might be annoying for office work more so than a 4:3 aspect purely because the screen is stretched sideways and a bit shorter. This is a matter of taste though. Some common backlight bleeding problems with the Dell 2005FPW to be wary of. Same panel pretty much as the the 2001FP, just the WS edition. 16ms S-IPS panel from LG.Philips but not quite as fast as modern screens like the fast 19" models (8ms TN and 8ms overdrive P-MVA for instance). Again, possibly potential problems with hardware supporting the high res in games. Potential issue of games maybe not supporting the widescreen native resolution. If games are ok, the widescreen might be nice esp on games like WoW.

19" screens - stuck with the lower resolution of 1280 x 1024 and smaller screen size. Certainly more choice of models at an affordable price. More diversity in panel choices as there are many different TN and VA models to choose from. Cheaper. Availability of faster screens inc the 8ms TN market for instance so more aimed at a main "gamers" market. Many screens still use TN Film technology which is limited for office / movie use, but very good for gaming. No widescreen so not as enjoyable for movies.



Just some things to consider really...........:)
 
It's just that i found a picture of a 19in and 20.1in dell lcd and the 19in seemed quite bit taller. I'll try to find the pic, it's on hardocp display sticky...now to sort through the 90+ pages...
 
You also have to take into account the type of games you play if you play WC3 TFT or any real time strategy game your going to want 4:3 over the 16:9 widescreen (2005fp is something like this not quite 16:9 from what I have heard). So for me it was better to go with a 4:3 cause I do lots of office work for school and programming. Along with rts as my favorite computer games I took into account that i didnt want strected toolbars and layouts.
