I have 2 PSUs laying around (same brand, same specs) and i was wondering if it is possible to connect these PSUs into 1, that is to actually connect the two 24 pins ATX main power supply cables. That would require some welding but is no problem for me, so would that work?

If you are trying to run a dual PSU setup you could just use one of the commercially available switches for doing so......

I was once told that you must power the video card and motherboard with one psu to avoid possible power differences. The drives are supposed to be okay. Not sure on that but I recall being told that here before

would the those switches allow me to run both PSU at the same time?

Yes that is what they are designed to do. The CM Stacker comes with them and Performance PC's among others sell stand alone ones.
