I have 2 290x in my possesion today so I compared them in my system with some benchmarks I have.
I have a Powercolor PCS+ 290x and a Sapphire Vapor-X 290x
I did each run once at the factory speeds of the PCS+ card (1150/1350) and once at the Vapor-X default settings (1180/1410) Just because. This is not meant to be scientific I was just bored today. Computer is Intel Core i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz with 16GB ram

Fire Strike default settings

PCS+ @ 1150/1350

Combined Score 4439

Vapor-X @ 1150/1350

PCS+ @ 1180/1410

PCS+

Vrm1 89
Vrm2 67

Vapor-X
GPU 80
Vrm1 69
Vrm2 65

So nothing to earth shattering here. I felt that the Vapor-X is quieter especially at idle. The PCS+ did seem to have some weird stutters durng the testing that I did not notice on the Vapor-X

Very interesting :) the vapour x seems to have better minimum frame rates. There is a big difference in vrm1 temps.

But other than that, not much in it at all.

Thanks for posting. It was worth doing.

My 290 clocked at 1102/1400 is right there with those.

My Heaven Benchmark with your settings:
49.5
1246
min 23.8, max 100.5

Thanks for posting those

What push's the combined score so high?

I asked because my cx7950 is like 13,000+ graphics score stock clocked and my cpu is also over 13,000+physics score but the combine is less then 4000

On my 7950s, the Sapphire Dual-X and Powercolor, though both hit the same GPU temps the Sapphire one has much better VRM cooling - as much as 10C, which is significant in my opinion.

I have a 290x pcs+ also. Mines under water now and doesn't have heat issues but on air it would throttle above 74C on the core at stock settings. There's a lot unsaid in this comparison and I'm kinda looking at it with one eye cocked going eh? I mean you can dial in the target temp on these.

My vrm temps did not go anywhere near 90c on air but I wasn't over clocking.
