Hi ya,

I'm currently on a 8500GT. Bought it because it had PurevideoHD, however, I realise that I probably won't need that feature for the next 2 or 3 years.

I won't be playing any demanding DX10 games like Crysis or anything. Probably Need for Speed: Carbon, FIFA or some stuff like that.

Would the 1950pro suffice? It's the same price as a 8600GTS.

Anything more power hungry than the 1950pro is too hot to cool passively, so 8800GTS is out.

specs
AMD X2-3600+ (2ghz)
4x1GB DDR2-800
GF6150+nv430 motherboard
19" widescren LCD (1440x900)

The X1950 XT is quite a bit better than the X1950 Pro. It's like a third faster, across the board, and costs almost the same as a 256 mb X1950 Pro. Cheap and powerful DX9-only solution, this is the card I'm planning to last me until a cheap and powerful DX10 card becomes available.

thanks. But it appears that the 1950xt is a fair bit hotter too, so I'm unable to cool it passively.

You should be good anything 1280x1024 except maybe badly written codes or console ports.

I think you could definitely play Crysis with it too.

You might want to check your power supply and see what cards you can get.

i personaly recomend the X1950 XT as well its what i am going to pick here soon, but i am wondering why the cooling is issue for u? the stock cooling system for the card is going to be more then enough for what u are going to do. just wondering.

hi thanks all.

I need to cool the card passively and the 1950XT is too hot for that. The PSU has enough power, so it's not that.

Well since you said yourself the 8600gts is about the same price, you should atleast consider it. It can be passively cooled and can be used later for its video features. Unfortunately it is quite a step down from the 1950XT or 7950GT so those 2 are better performance wise
