is the price difference between a 17" lcd and a 19" lcd worth it?

if they run the same native resolution @ 1280x1024,is the 19" going to be worth the extra money?

if so,why?

thanks for any help.

To me, yes.

Even though the virtual size is the same, the physical size is bigger. This means that text is larger on the 19" monitor, which is very important to me.
This applies to anything, not just text.

Go splurge that extra 20$ to go from a 17" to a 19". ^_^

~Hope this helps

It's closer to $100 for a decent display, but yeah you can get a 19" for only a little bit more than a 17".

It's worth it for movies and games (IF you can run at 1280x1024 with AA) but for anything else the 17" will do fine.

thanks for the replys.

what aboutht e widescreens..whcih size widescrren would my 6600gt be better with?i figure it would probally be the 19".i am looking at the viewsonic va1912wb.

will my 6600gt be ok with this monitor or will it be ok with one of the 20"ers?

im moving up from a samsung 17"crt and want to make sure i spend my money the right way..im looking to spend between $300-$400 give or take a little.

i do alot of internet browsing, photoshop stuff and some gaming.

thanks for the help so far.

I don't think the 6600GT can handle gaming at 20", but at everything else, it'll be fine.

If you do a lot of internet browsing, then text size will most likely be very important to you. The 19" wins here.
If you do a lot of gaming, you want to strive for a monitor with 16ms or less response time to be on the safe side.

If you do a lot of photoshop stuff, then color reproduction will be CRITICAL! You MUST make sure the monitor is true 24bit with 16.77mil color support. The difference between 16.2mil and 16.77mil is like night and day when using photoshop.

Sadly, a fast monitor, and a monitor with true 24bit 16.77mil color are hard to come by. It's usually one or the other.

Still, comming from a 17" CRT, you will be pleasently surprised at the size of a 19" LCD.

I have a 19" Sony LCD. Its a beauity! great colors, no noticible washout, great backlight, no dead pixles, perfect size. Only problem, is its slow when it comes to games, and I get blurries in games like UT or Farcry. But, I can suffer with it, because it does photoshop great (which I use heavily). Text is very sharp and big enough for my eyes. I recommend a 19" LCD 100%.

this helps alot and is very appreciated.

i dont game alot..im still into farcry and it has taken me for ever to get any where on it because i dont play it alot.so i guess the photoshop stuff will be more important to me.

thanks again for the help.
