i just got a new ACER al2032wd widescreen monitor. it is a 20inch LCD. the native resolution is suppossed to be 1680x1050. i can't get it to run at that resolution on my ati 9800pro.... the monitor will go into 1600x1200 or less, and with a stretched picture ... this is driving me nuts ..... acer support says it is the fault of my video card.... i know they are not accurate ..... any one have insight on how this should work .? i.e how to get your video card to work at 1680x1050? what is responsible for the resolution the monitor or the video card....... ???

that's odd. ;( it's definatly the monitor if you have already installed the latest ATI drivers.

I just got a Dell 2005FPW same native reso. i plugged it in and blam. picked the reso. No hassle. I hadn't even installed any special drivers for the monitor. I'd say call again and demand to speak with a manager. The level 1 techs for most companies always love blaming you the end user over actualy diagnosing the problem.

yes the drivers that came with the monitor are installed .. i think acer messed up the controller on this monitor or something ... it should not support 1600x1200 .. that does not make sense .....

any ideas? should i take it back ?
 
I just brought this LCD monitor and I got the same problem. Not able to obtain the above resolution. Does anyone know if ACER fix the problem yet?
 
Unfortunately, the information on the ACER website causes more confusion than being helpful.

The video on my ASUS notebook, M6BNE is an ATI Radeon 9700 which is on the compatiblity list.

The ATI VGA driver from ASUS gives me a maximum wide screen resolution of 1280x768.
Any other wide screen resolution higher than this will default to 1024x768. There is not a selection for 1680x1050.

The Omega driver provide a selection for 1680x1050 but when selected the LCD switches to 1280x1024.

There is a problem with the LCD monitor.

Does any one else found the same result?
 
I think I am having the same results when trying to use 1680x1050.

I have a Radeon 9700pro (regular agp version - not mobile) running on the DVI port. This card is not listed on Acer's site as being compatible with the 2032w though.

When I run 1680x1050, the monitor's osd information section reports it as running at 1280x1024 instead, and I actually have to pan left/right to see my entire desktop. It is almost like the screen resolution is 1280x1024 and the desktop resolution is 1680x1050.

Before I go out and by a videocard that's listed as compatible on Acer's site, I'd like to verify that the 1680x1050 res. actually *does* work on the 2032w. From the sounds of it, it may not be my videocard after all.
 
i've got a 9700 running at 1680x1050 with my dell 2005fpw... definitly not the video card mate. If you run powerstrip you ought to be able to force the 1680x1050 mode pretty easily.
