I'm looking for a recommendation on a psu that is solid, efficient, and runs just a single 12v rail. Preferably in the 700+ range. Cost isn't an issue. I've done a little bit of research, but I'm getting caught up in the details and it's driving me nuts. So I'm trying to step back a little bit and take a breath and ask you fine folks who may have some insight. Thanks.

What are you trying to run? You probubly won't need 700w..

You leave yourself with a huge gamut of PSUs you can choose from if you say this and not say what it is for. You could go with Season 500W S12 or M12 or even the Ultra 1300W. There is a big difference in price here.

corsair hx620 or 750w silencer quad, happy with both and neither are too loud.

Sorry. I'm building a TEC system with dual 8800 ultra's in a quad-core SLACR configuration. I'm also hoping to be able to drop in 2 gig sticks and fill it up. I already have a 5 disk raid 1+0 setup. I do a lot of analysis/physics work. I also write my own software for the work that I need to get done. The TEC will be at least 226 watts, but I'm looking at bigger units. I want to make sure I can get a PSU that can handle the TEC plus the dual ultra's.

Too much draw for my house wiring at that high of a wattage.

As device manager and Paul_Johnson have hinted, you won't draw 1600W unless your computer needs it. The number is how much power the PSU can supply - not how much it will always draw.

Hopefully your breaker will trip before you overload your house wiring. But the choice of PSU won't make a difference with that.

how does that work?

RAID 1+0: mirrored sets in a striped set (minimum 4 disks; even number of disks) provides fault tolerance and improved performance but increases complexity. The key difference from RAID 0+1 is that RAID 1+0 creates a striped set from a series of mirrored drives. The array can sustain multiple drive losses as long as no two drives lost comprise a single pair of one mirror.
