im looking at the antec smartpower 500w, and it says '+12V1@17A, +12V2@19A'.

ive heard that 12v@26A is best and to get a PSU has that. i see that there are 2 12v thingamadoodles there on the antec. is this as good as 12v@26a? or is it worse?
 
In a word, it's different. What system will you be using the power supply with?

 
opteron 165
dfi ultra-d m/b
radeon x1900xt
2 gig of not-sure-yet ram

1 dvd drive
1 sata hd
and just 2 120mm fans

OP: An ATX12v2.0 psu with 2 12v rails dedicates one 12v (12v2) to the processor while 12v1 feeds the rest fo the system. Most ATX12v2.0's are fed by a single rectifier so the combined 12v is limited to whatever the rectifier is and is usually not additive of the rails.
 
i would go for the truepower 480, more stable rails for 15$ more, 18A on each 12v rails.

33A on the +12V is very healthy.
