Weird I thought you wasn't allowed to resale ES cpus. As it was against the tos that was agreed to review the cpus. Either way some crazy cores on those cpus.
 
I think it is against ToS but I see it all the time, maybe theres a timelimit? Its not mine but I don't have the money to buy them so I thought I'd pass it along
800$ for those chips is a steal I'd think... Also should work on R4e

I always see older es chips on there but I checked today on a whim and BAM there are some ivy-e ES chips... I might get one if someone buys my gold dom plat 2666

IIRC ES cpu remain the property of Intel at all time and selling them is not allowed.
Even though there are many for sell on ebay.
 
My E5-2665 is an ES from ebay. Everything works great on it, all cores are active.
 
I don't see how anyone at hardforum would be responsible in any way for people "discussing" ES Cpus. They are real, They are for sale, People buy and sell them and hardforum Ultimately has no control or bare any responsibility for any of it regardless of if people have discussed it. Therefore I don't see why anyone would be inclined to shut a thread down. There is no "danger" in talking about something just as long as people don't try to buy and sell them here. Is this the adult way of thinking about this? I hope so.

There's no difference between discussing the sale of ES processors and Hackintosh setups, yet the Hackintosh threads get shutdown.
 
Discussing their use and performance is one thing, which you can normally do, posting them for sale is a no-no.

I have 10, use them daily and talk about them freely in the DC sub forum as do lots of others, selling them is a different story

ECC Ram is a must for the Ivy-E xeon chips, otherwise they won't boot The ES chips are also VERY picky about motherboards.

It took me a 10days and 5 different sets of RAM to get my 2p Ivy-E to boot
 
interesting to read after so long. its funny that you guys are saying this thread would get shutdown when i see ES chips for sale in for sale section HERE and they been there for days and even has one or 2 sold.
 
ES cpus are great I'm not really sure why so many people shy away from them. Are you scared intel is gonna get you? LOL

I've bought 6 Sandy Bridge-E (two hex cores and 4 quad cores) cpus 3 of which have been running in gaming pcs for the last couple months (including mine.) With the 3 remaining I'm not sure if I'm going to just wait till I can find compatible motherboards for them or keep trying to sell them (I've had a F/S thread up for weeks but little to no interest)

Obviously the biggest drawback is that they can't be overclocked. This is why you want a cheap board for this, you won't see much benefit from an R4E when u can't overclock.

Its just important to do a lot of research first as not all ES cpus are compatible with all x79 motherboards.
 
"Engineering Sample" sales are against forum rules, "Extra Spicy or PM for details" chips are fine.
