I am buying a 9800pro from newegg cuz cheapest i chould find but my question is do I wait a couple of weeks till paycheck to get the 256mb version or just buy the 128 vesrion right now. I want to play DOOM3 NOW but if the 256mb version will preform alot better then il wait.

With a 256 MB version, you should be able to flash to a 9800 XT and get very good performance. However, if you're not [H]ard enough to flash, which some aren't, and there's nothing wrong with that, there really isn't much difference between the 128 MB and 256 MB versions when you get down to it. The only place you will notice much of a difference is in games like Doom 3, where the 256 MB version would be helpful.

However, instead of buying the 256 MB version, if you have 1 G+ of system RAM, consider buying a 6800 and setting your AGP aperture to 128 or 256. That will net you a better card than the 9800 pro for about the same or a little less than a 256 MB Pro will cost.

I thought agp aperature was suppose to be a 4th, so even for a 512mb system you could do 128. Clarify?

Yes, It can be 1/4th, but with only 512 MB of System memory trying to play Doom 3, you may want to set the Aperture to 64, simply to conserve system memory.

You are correct in saying you can run 128 AGP aperture on 512 RAM, however, I was simply suggesting that if he has a lot of system RAM, he can have a high AGP aperture to allow for a 128 MB card.

Clarified? ;)
