120hz or IPS?

It's kind of hard to decide here.
I mostly game, so a 120hz monitor with low ghosting would be very beneficial, but I also have never tried any monitor other than TN panels. I would really like to try out. Response time is fine as long as it's not too bad (around 7-8 ms g2g is fine to me), but my budget is only $250 max.
Is it too unrealistic for an IPS? I can find deals on 120hz monitors for less than $200. Is that a better choice overall? And if 120hz monitors are a better choice, which ones will give me the best color reproduction for the money?
I appreciate any responses!

Your best bet is to try some out at a local B&M or something. Make sure their osd settings aren't completely messed up. I personally won't be buying TN ever again unless something changes drastically. But there are many who swear by 120hz. I haven't seen one that didn't look like shit, though.

There are a few IPS panels that fall relatively within your budget.

NEC EA231wmi can be had from amazon around $260 shipped.

Dell U2311h can be had from $249+ depending on what day of the week it is. (Dell changes prices it seems every Thursday and some times more frequent)

I'm going to be switching from a 60 Hz IPS display to a 120 Hz TN display fairly soon. Considering all I do on my PC is play games, the move makes perfect sense for me. On my 'workstation', I absolutely demand IPS.

If you're going to get a 120 Hz display though, make sure you're doing so with a purpose. If you have no intention of going 3D or can't maintain an average frame rate around 120 fps in the games you play, then I wouldn't necessarily bother: there are good 60 Hz displays with excellent response times and minimal ghosting which are probably cheaper (and in some ways probably better) than the 120 Hz displays you're looking at. If you're going to be playing most of your games with vsync, then you'll need to be able to meet or exceed 120 fps at all times to get the smoother motion response 120 Hz affords, otherwise you'll be falling back to 60 fps on occasion (assuming double buffering).
