12.3 Driver GPU Clock and Temp Issues

I recently installed the latest 12.3 driver and CAP after clean uninstalling the the 12.2 driver and CAP. My cards are now idling 7C hotter and my gpu clock speeds are doing crazy things. The #1 GPU is jumping up and down like crazy and the #2 is constantly running at its stock clock speeds of 900 mhz even though my overclock speeds are set to 1000 in both CCC and afterburner. The #2 GPU actually runs hotter than the first which is also not the norm for xfire. I assume this is because the clock speeds are sitting at 900 24/7. I have the latest afterburner and all other drivers are updated. Also I get random black horizontal lines in the screen that flicker. Im guessing this is because of the random clock speeds. Thanks for the help. Any suggestions?

UPDATE: This is also the case with completely stock clock speeds.

Do you have multiple monitors? That will make your card idle at higher clocks and increase the temps. I also have noticed the same thing with my 5870s also. I find my card(s) go to idle and full clocks then back to idle at random times with nothing running.
 
No. I'm running a single 27" 1080P 120hz monitor. 12.2 Drivers ran fine but I dont want to go back because I play Alan Wake and its only works with 12.3 drivers ha. The odd thing is though that the #2 GPU runs at full clocks 24/7 and is causing it to actually be warmer than the first GPU ha. Thanks for the response.
 
I can tell you that the 12.3's have the bug with the 2nd GPU running at 3D clocks all the time.
I have the same issue, not sure if it's attributed to some incompatibility with AB, but if you launch a 3D title and then close it, the 2nd GPU will idle properly until the next boot up of Windows.
 
Gotcha. Well its good to hear I'm not the only one I suppose. It could be a lot worse for sure. Hopefully this gets fixed next update. Thanks for the help.
 
I had the same problem over here and it's been reported everywhere that 12.3 is buggy with CF. I tried the 12.4 (8.95.5) beta drivers and they are working fine. It downclocks from 3D to 2D just fine and most games are working fine. Maybe you can try that.
 
Not just CF, the 12.3's make my fan readout do the same thing, although the fan isn't following the graph. It's at a steady speed, while the readout bounces between the min/max rpm
 
even with gpu acceleration off, i've noticed firefox makes the clocks bounce on my 7970.
if i use IE, it doesnt happen. this might be the case with you.
 
Thats a good thought. I beat the game that needed the 12.3 drivers to work today so I down graded back to 12.2 drivers and all is well again ha. Hopefully AMD realizes this issue and fixes it next update. Thanks for the response.
 
So I just setup my CF & had this issue with 12.3, So I downgraded to 12.2 & still have the issue (did full uninstall in-between). Going to give the 12.4 beta drivers a shot (downloading now). I will post back if they work. Also I am glad to see others having this issue so its nothing I did with this new build.
 
ok.. So installed 12.4 & everything has stayed correct after restarting & sleeping.. Looks to be resolved.
 
I'm running 12.3 with my crossfire, and 2nd clocks stay at 925/1375 from boot up. It was stabilize the 2d clocks only after I run a game or something, as someone mentioned. I haven't tried 12.4, but I will do that today when I get home. It was driving me nuts, switched cards around to check a particular card fault and pcie positioning. :confused:

Google brought me nothing, so I'm glad I stumped upon this thread. :)
 
YAY! Fuck up clock speeds still on 12.4 drivers!!

Wouldnt be an issue if it wasnt fucking my temps up on my #1 GPU. Its all drivers because 12.2 doesnt do it. This is just sitting at windows desktop with nothing running.

Definitely don't have that issue with my 2x7970 and these drivers or any for that matter.
I did have the common issue of GPU2 not going to idle clock speeds unless a 3D app was launched, but that is now fixed with 12.4 WHQL.
