Hey guys, I had this SFF system pieced out for a friend. I would love to hear some comments or suggestions in parts. His budget is 1100.. so I was wondering if this is the best bang for the buck. We plan on overclocking this chip to 2.4-2.6 mhz.

yeah 2 gigs of mem, a bit faster processor, otherwise the mobo I have no idea what brand that is notr the PSU that's sketchy too.
 
Well I think the board he chose is actually pretty good. The MSI may be better if you are not overclocking.

Also yeah you should get 2 gigs of ram

Oh and switch the NEC burner for the BenQ 1640 cheaper, quieter, as good or better.
 
the psu is good, its in the psu section of the forum's recommended psu's sticky. it uses the same module unit whatever u call it thing as Antec does.
 
The NEC burner is too long if you plan on using a standard atx power supply. I'm not sure about the benq though. AFAIK, the sonys, liteons, are short drives which can accomodate standard atx power supplies
 
Stick with the Jetway board unless you absolutely need firewire or don't plan on doing any overclocking.
I'm currently using an LG DVD burner. It's shorter than the NEC and will just clear a normal power supply.
The X-Clio is a good mid-range power supply, but I'd opt for something heavier for that 7800GT, maybe a Fortron Blue Storm or even an OCZ Powerstream 520.
 
-You may run into problems with the Jetway and an ATX 2.0 PSU. I would consider going with the ECS RS480-M or a different PSU. If you still go with the Jetway, get the non-Pro and save yourself $10. Only dif is onboard vid mem, which would be useless for you.

-NEC is too long. Go with a Sony, Lite-On, Plextor or something else. If the LG fits, it is by far the quietest/fastest. It is longer than the ones I just mentioned, though.

At the moment we are looking at the alternatives to the NEC drive as well as PSU options.
Is there any issues with the ram choice? We plan on overclocking the cpu to about 2.2-2.4 if possible. Any other questions we have, ill post.

My Seasonic 430W (nice and quiet) fits with a plextor slot-load DVD (god, I love the look of that drive, and plextor's are amazing drives) - certainly when the dvd is in the bottom 5.25" slot... haven't tried it mounted in the top slot, although it looks like that might be a problem.
 
IIRC the Pioneer DVR-A09XL is a bit shorter than the NEC's, so it might be a valid option. The retail versions have some internal sound-proofing / quieting options (pretty good since loud optical drives can get pretty annoying IMO), and the front bezel is also pretty different from any other drive you'll find out there. They have a pretty hefty price tag at most retail stores (~$100), but the retail versions can be found within the $40-$50 price range on ebay. I currently have one in my (practically silent) main machine, and I'll soon have another in my htpc ;).
