Well since the 10.1s .... nothing works. Unable to get full screen @ max res on my 24" monitor. LOL had to keep rolling back to 10.1's for months now. I believe I'm going back to nVidia just mainly cuz the drivers work. ATi has to be the biggest pile of shit I've ever used. They used to be bad back in the day, but this is crazy. I have a 5770 & 5870 ... neither one will take any of the new drivers since 10.1

I'm not gonna reinstall my OS every time I want to install drivers. So the 1st chance I get I'm going to nVidia. I don't care if I lose money selling these cards. I don't even care if I have to trash them & make ZERO money back. I'm done with ATi. I don't care what they promise on their next upgrade. Driver support is key one to keeping customers happy, and they're failing miserably.

I think you should go back to Nvidia. I mean, most people manages to install the drivers, you don't. Must be the drivers then, yes? ;)

lol. That's right blame the drivers ^^

Sorry, but your issues aren't driver problems. It's you who is having a problem. There is something else wrong. Because if there was a problem with the drivers that was causing your problem everybody would be complaining about it on forums.

ati drivers are synonymous with fail
somehow fallout 3 is running smooth all maxed at 2560x1600(4x edge detect,16x aniso) and the temp goes to 84c with a auto controlled 40's % fan speed
good enough for now

ATI definitely does have some driver issues, but Mike I would look elsewhere. Two separate cards acting that way would make me think it's something else.

I'll gladly buy that old crappy 5870 from you if you're willing to take a loss as you say. PM me with what you want and we can haggle. My little brother would love it for his new build.

How do you have your monitor hooked up and what is it's native resolution? Do you have both of those cards in your system at the same time?

I hear nvidia has really good drivers that fry your card, with the hotty crappy shitty 400 series you should even get better results.

I had an issue where I couldn't get any drivers past 10.1 to install as well. It was a result of me buying my 5870 used and it turned out it was an engineering sample. The Engineering samples will black screen if you try to install cats 10.1 and up unless you do this simple registry edit.

Not sure if this is your problem, but if your cards are OEM and you got them used or from a place you might get engineering samples then I would try this fix. Works perfectly for me.

Mike...

Please post some more details and I'm sure somebody can assist. Those cards you have are too nice for you to try to upgrade and take the loss.

Have you tried to uninstall the old drivers before upgrading to the latest version?

Good Luck.

I have zero problem with the 10.4 driver. None since 10.1. I update the driver once it comes out.

I am done with ATI with their crappy driver, and I am also done with nVidia's frying driver.

I AM GOING BACK TO VIA!!!

I have a Nvidia Riva TNT laying around here somewhere I'll trade you.

yea, go nvidia, where the "problems" mean you have to buy a whole new card

Not sure what the hard part of this is. I uninstalled old drivers ... rebooted & installed new ones. Even tried deleting ATi folder on HDD. Still doesn't work. So what could I be possibly missing? LOL You ppl act like it's rocket science to replace video drivers. Just stop the n00b comments that's everyone's a newb. As far as taking a loss on t hese cards ... I can afford to. ;)

Looking at your post history, most of your post is about having issues installing something from Vista 64 to memory chips and harddrives. Thats ok. People have issues.

However, rants like your op makes me think of a picture I've seen:

You connect with HDMI, so there can be many reasons why you don't get full image and most of them relates to your display. Many Westinghouse had issues with broken EDID, which screwed up display. Some displays limits connection with PC signals and that means it needs to be manually overriden . 10.1 might have done this for you, while 10.4 doesn't. This means that your monitor is fucked up, not your drivers, though you might fix sometimes screwed up monitors with drivers by overriding their defaults.

If you would have asked for help, people would have been more forwarding. Don't forget that people usually don't have issues installing drivers. Heck, I have sometimes not even bothered uninstalling and just installed the drivers without any issues afterwards.

If something is screwed up that doesn't seem to be universal, chances are that the fault resides within your setup. Thats a thumb-rule in troubleshooting.

What is the problem? Some detail would be good.

I agree sometimes ATI can be a bit frustrating, but no more than nvidia in my book.

I have dual 5870 E6 cards and EyeFinity and have used every driver set since the 5870 was released, and I have had not one problem.
Yes, some games needed tinkering to get right, but I just had to look around and find out what other people did to fix the problem.

Now, given my experiences with the 4870 X2, here's what I do every time I load a new package.
1.Download new driver set, download the game profiles set.
2.Use ATI uninstaller
3.Reboot into safe mode and delete every ATI file in the program file and user file.
4.Run DriverCleaner.net
5.Reboot and then load the new driver set.

Yes, it takes me about 15 minutes to do all that, but so what.....it works for me just fine.:D

In looking at your original post, maybe all you need to do is tinker with the scaling?
Go into the CCC and under displays, toggle the scaling between the GPU and the monitor controlled scaling.....sounds like that is all it might be.

Go into the CCC and under displays.
There is no "Displays"
There is desktop & displays
There is even a display options.

Neither of them have this option. Not sure where you're trying to point me. But the "actual" word used in this section, might work better. And as far as my "ranting". I came in with a problem, might not have worded or gotten across my meaning very well. But the ATi fanboi's are the ones coming in flaming the thread. Scroll up & read. Oh yea & reading comprehension is going to be required for you to understand what was typed back to me.

The only thing that has come to me is the possible aspect ratio. I noticed in one install the settings were stuck on Basic, not in the HDTV part, and wasn't able to change it.

Ok found scaling & this was the problem. WHY THE F@CK would this setting NOT be set back to default? ROFL@ME for not finding this on my own though.

But i sincerely appreciate the assistance with this. Was driving me fuken NUTZ since February.
