Major Publishers Sued For Patent Infringement Over Fantasy Sports

Activision, EA, Take-Two, Zynga and Konami are being sued over a pair of fantasy sports patents owned by a company called Virtual Gaming Technologies. I hope these guys have really good lawyers, a lot of money or both because we all know that the companies they are suing have all the above.

Texas-based Virtual Gaming Technologies, LLC, filed the case yesterday in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, claiming Activision is infringing on patents it owns for "real-time interaction systems" most used in fantasy sports games. The technology covered by those patents involves giving fantasy sports players access to updated information about their players' performances during live, ongoing contests.
 
Patent case? Check.
Eastern District of Texas? Check.
Patent assertion by someone with no product? Check.

THESE ASSHOLES NEED TO BURN. WHY IS THIS STILL A THING
 
Why the fuck doesn't some federal entity go shut down the ongoing clown show occurring at the Eastern District of Texas "court" system?
 
EDTX was advertised as being patent holder friendly (in fact, they haven't actually invalidated that many patents), unlike the more actually tech savvy courts like CDCA, so a lot of patent court cases goes there.

It's publicity more than anything else, Patent cases gets media's attention.

Because it would probably be hypocritical on the part of the "federal entity" to do so.
 
Percentage of this lawsuit going in favour for Virtual Gaming Technologies, LLC? Hmm 1%?

If I recall, EDTX is the patent troll capital. It's where the trolls come out and pray towards, like their Mecca.
 
Patented leaderboards, Really? 4 player live leaderboards have been around since gauntlet for atari in 1985, possibly earlier.
