As far as public perception goes, I think creating a safety advisory board is a smart move for Uber. Whether or not it will make an actual difference remains to be seen.

The six-member board is made up of outsiders such as former Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis; former deputy executive director of the Texas Department of Transportation John Barton; and National Network to End Domestic Violence executive vice president Cindy Southworth. They will advise Uber’s internal safety and security teams.

Why would they need a safety board if they're claiming their employees aren't employees and their clients aren't their clients. There's no one to protect if the only thing your company does, is exist.
