I went to download the August patches yesterday and after researching some of the new optional updates I was surprised to find that MS has once again bundled some annoying spyware into the monthly updates...

"many Windows users who are not happy with Windows 10 spying ways have preferred to stay on with Windows 7/Windows 8/Window 8.1 as the case might be...for these Windows 7/8/8.1users there are a few updates which Microsoft has been pushing through the last few days...namely, KB3075249 and KB3080149, if installed are known to report your data back to Microsoft servers as they add tracking telemetry...

do a Google search on 'KB3075249' and you'll see a bunch of links detailing the new telemetry 'features'

I made a thread over a week ago on the same topic, but Kyle closed it for being a thread about a thread. It's not useful to disagree about including one link in a 4 paragraph post, so lol?

The info is still useful if someone wants to clear off that data collection crap, especially since it installs and transmits data nightly to MS even if the user has previously opted out of CEIP and other data collection: https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/3g7hr0/removing_telemetry_from_windows_7_and_8x/ It's also more complete than the link you posted.

only ones I do not install are KB3035583 (Windows 10 nag screen) along with the 2 new August ones (KB3075249 and KB3080149)...some of the other updates listed on reddit and the article I linked to are different so it might just be people going overboard

Your evidence of Windows "spying" on you is, "do a Google search"?

This entire spyware conspiracy nonsense is the result of Reddit posts by people who have no idea what they are talking about. The tinfoil haberdashers read that shit and go nuts.

It is fun to lurk in these threads and listen to crazy people rant about having their HDD scanned for torrents, which if found, are immediately uploaded to the MPAA for future lawsuit fodder. Also the NSA.

People who get their news and facts from PC Master Race are dumb.

so you left out the very first sentence in my post- "I went to download the August patches yesterday and after researching some of the new optional updates I was surprised to find that MS has once again bundled some annoying spyware into the monthly updates"

so again, if you research the latest updates you'll find many articles like I posted...seems like you just want to dismiss everything based on your loyalty towards MS or some other entity

It's weird, isn't it?

Many people who have installed Windows 10 on here have been interested in stopping data collection and/or transmission. It's a valid topic and threads like this are useful for anyone running 7/8.x and having the same concerns. It only takes a moment to check how much info MS schedules to transmit each night, whether someone previously opted in or out of MS data collection.

exactly...even the people who like Windows 10 are tweaking it to disable programs and features which share their data...then there are people like crusty_juggler who immediately get defensive and try and deflect and/or ignore any and all criticisms about Microsoft

I haven't seen any that detail them, just a lot of garbage. I spoke about it in length in the front page thread about this.

Short version: only affects those who already are in the "Customer Experience Improvement Program", we do care about privacy, and nothing nefarious is going on (or I'm *way* out of the loop about what's going on here).

Alternative version: it's nearly impossible to change the opinion of someone who's already made up their mind, but I'm doing my best because privacy (and consent) are important to me.

the list of KBs I have to watch for is getting annoyingly long

sigh.../looks over at linux CD/

That's just not true about only affecting people in the CEIP. MS has been installing several of those updates and task scheduling data transmissions on system which have never chosen to opt in.

Reading your linked post, it sounds like you do share concerns about privacy. It's hard to deny how that conflicts with Peter Bright's analysis of what looks like from relatively harmless to completely opaque and sometimes non-anonymized traffic in Windows 10 when analyzing (apparently non-functional) privacy settings. Along with not asking in Win7/8.x and what's happening now in Win10, that's disturbing.

lol, it will probably be sorted out eventually by another EUC "investigation" and mega fine. :D

Even though I like windows 10, I share the same curiosity about the data being transmitted to MS. I wish they would tell us exactly what is being shared and make it easier to stop the telemetry completely.

Quick, easy, money-making solution for Microsoft: create a paid version of Win10, with a big red "Stop All Info Sharing" button, clearly visible during installation, i.e. not a handful of individual switches or buttons in different locations. One which actually works, I mean.

I'll go back to my corner now. ( ._.)
