Uber has agreed to suspend service in Portland for three months while the city hammers out new taxi regulations.

Uber has agreed to suspend its operations in Portland, Ore., for three months while city officials revise rules governing taxis and the use of ride-sharing apps, the company announced Thursday.

I still think it sounds like Uber is trying to skirt around the taxi rules in any way they can. Technically, they are charging for rides just as a taxi service. Just using private people and vehicles to do so.

Still - it is a good service that I hope PDX can get an agreement with. Why hold back progress? If this is where the public chooses to do business, then it should be embraced. If taxi's can't compete, then they will need to evolve or move aside. I've seen way too many of these big players push out the more advanced little guys just because of their size. They are stuck in the past, and refuse to let any new players in the game.
