Firefox Version 32.0.2 Is Out Now

no worries. by the time i get around to downloading it next week, version 36 should be out

;)

Been on 25 even since they took out the old legacy mode DL window.

Check out Classic Theme Restorer. It allows you to change a lot of the UI back to how it used to be in older version. Not sure if the DL window is part of that or not but its worth a look.

Firefox has been going down hill rapidly lately.

How so?

I'm not necessarily trying to doubt you, but the only thing I see that has changed about Firefox is that it is no longer hipster approved after the political fallout from their CEO leaving months ago. Now you have every random douche who jumped on the hipster bandwagon of bullshit claiming that firefox has "gone downhill lately". When asked to explain that statement from the perspective of someone who chooses their browser based on technical merit and not politics, I'm usually met with a blank stare.

Have they reverted the Windows 8 inspired interface? I refuse to let it update me past 28.

Works just fine for me on Win 7 64bit...fast and stable. Sorry to go against the bitch fest.

Classic Theme Restorer. It isn't perfect but it helps a ton to eliminate the "metro" feel.

I use all 3 browsers at work, and firefox used to be my favorite browser, but chrome has really been my turn too browser. FF really bogs down my machine and im not sure what happened over the last few years, but i constantly have issues, especially with streaming. Chrome on the other hand works right out of the box. Not a google fan, but Chrome never fails in the office, so much so, i primarily use it at home now. I will give 32.0.2 a try.

With every new release Mozilla continues eliminating options for user control of their own browser caches, e.g. no option to sort by file size etc. Searching it in any useful way is intentionally made next to impossible. Last I heard they were up to both folder and filename obfuscation, ostensibly "for security", when the only practical difference is the near-complete inability of users to view and manage their own caches.

Meanwhile our FBI tells us they arrest over 16,000 Americans a year for what's in their browser caches. How many of these people even knew illegal content existed on their hard drives? Nobody knows thanks to the likes of Firefox and Chrome.

BTW did you know Google's entire motivation for developing the latter was to remove the option to disable third-party cookies? This fact gives some clue about the company's intentions.

I'm still on Firefox v22. For me, Firefox has just made too many changes in the wrong direction taking too many options away from the user. They used to be the browser of user control and customizations. It's what attracted me to them to begin with. They are no longer that way and are now forcing users to put up with their new direction of "we know the best options (or lack of) for you so just eat it and be happy". And I could give a fuck about the activists who forced the wimp CEO to resign over nothing. The only thing I can say about that deal was the CEO should have stood his ground instead of being a fucking pussy.

I have not used FFox in over a year and give this baby a whirl. I have to say very snappy and fast so far.
I will keep using it to support them. They did treat me well for a long time.

Thank you! Glad to have small navigation buttons back.

I've been keeping up w/ FF as they upgrade me and I generally like what they do w/ each version. But one thing that slightly annoyed me as of a couple versions ago is that the HTML title no longer is shown on its own below the menu bar but only above the tab bar. With a lot of tabs, that means that's only about an inch of real estate at most. So I can't see what the page title is unless I hover my mouse above the tab. Does anyone know of a mode to change it back to the way it was, perhaps w/ an add-on if necessary? TIA

Perhaps this will answer my concern I just mentioned. I know it can't hurt.. I don't care about losing the navigation buttons, just losing the HTML page title bar.

It appears they might have fixed some memory leaks, I am not using as much as before.
I still get the random mozilla crash and have to restart it or the annoying plug in container crash in the background.
Chrome is a memory hog, open one tab up and look into task manager and you will see about 4 chrome instances, WTF is that?

I remember when people clung to IE6 when 7 came out, and when people clung to XP when Vista came out (even after all the kinks were worked out).
I cling to Opera 12 :( bleh opera became a chrome clone which wouldn't be bad if it had all the old features.

Moved to Pale Moon after ff became a chrome clone.

Thanks for that info. Pale Moon wasn't even on my radar but after reading your post I figured I'd give it a go. Just installed it and love it! It's the way Firefox used to be. Evidently the folks over at Pale Moon also didn't like the direction Firefox is going. Kudos to them.

Can't wait for Firefox Version 72, which should be out by the end of the year I assume. Seriously, that's way too many versions... every minor update doesn't need to be a new one.

Yeah I have no idea why they dropped Presto. They might as well just close up shop or try to be bought out by someone for peanuts. (or bring presto back)

It's still the only multi-platform browser, you can share user profiles between Linux & Windows. Also custom settings possible that Chrome hasn't.

I am doing some heavy Internet based work and sometimes I have 4 browsers open.

IE, Chrome, Firefox and Opera.

Firefox is used for the serious work as none of the others can even remotely handle the workload I put firefox under.

For example, I have 7 Firefox Windows open and each have 5-6 tab groups each containing 20-25 tabs. That is more than 600 hundred tabs at use which I manage with 2 plugins, Fire title (changes the title of the window) and Tab Mix Plus (lots of possibilities with tabs).

On top of that I use firebug for HTML and CSS customizations which I find a better tool compared to IE and Chrome but that is my preference.

IE and Chrome are only used for testing and lately opera because it is fast for my casual browsing tabs.

Some comments

IE= Don't even get me started that think can't even remember sessions correctly even today, not to mention it can't even approach the load of Firefox's one window only.

Chrome= Where the hell is my interface?

Opera= same it is just another tab repository for me but feels a little snappier.

I use no cache on any of them (delete on exit)

Lately Firefox is a lot more stable anyway but even when it crashes for me no problem since its from my abuse and session recovery works amazingly well (using the same session for the last 2 years). I do backup daily just to be sure.

Now if anyone knows of a plugin that allows either IE or Chrome handle efficiently so many tabs (and groups) I would be glad to switch.

Is there a way in Chrome to always start in Private mode? Not just open Private tabs? I get lazy sometimes looking at porn and I don't want the wife to catch me. Firefox can be configured to always start in private mode.

You're using your browser wrong.

why do you need to have 600 tabs open?

Because I have more than 6000 bookmarks!:D

Seriously, its organized into subjects per window (custom titled) and then I have the tab groups within each windows.

I don't use all at the same time but most of them are dynamic elements so each time I click on them the get updated as well.

For example, 3 windows are used for web - development (1 main sites + editing, 1 Graphics - Photo agencies so I can perform multiple searches at once and one with online markets selling small plugins, assets and other software + support forums etc). Ah, lets not forget a local webserver running for testing. Then I drag, clip (One Note) and copy many elements to other software (Illustrator, Photoshop, Autocad) from Browser Windows so I need all in front of me for faster working.

I could use 10,000 tabs and know what each one contains thanks to Firefox. Yet, I am really amazed that it can handle such a load for 10 hours straight without crushing and even with Firebug open (developer tool) so for me its the only option.

The tabs only load when I click on them so they are not always open at the same time and once a week I do some cleaning getting rid of info I have used or bookmarking them.

BTW, Opera is in its 3rd window full of tabs, Chrome is 2 windows and IE is on one.

Once I am done with a project I have been working on for the last 5 months I am out of this lunacy and next time I am outsourcing or I will fly to the moon or something. :)

with Chrome ram and CPU use is per tab

firefox its the whole lot in one process so you got CPU issues plus ram, i find CPU tends to be the bigger issues as only takes one site to bog down firefox

i generally use Chrome and the New opera (and Old opera 12 with Opera Turbo enabled for bypassing stupid Government enforced ISP blocks in the uk)

$10 says porn.

info is his p0rn of choice.

I don't have that many but I do have a bit.
And FF's javascript engine is single threaded and it's garbage collection (GC) isn't that good; hence memory usage will start to balloon.
Even with a handful of tabs open, memory usage can still be above 1.2GB (after closing a boatload).
