You know how we always joke about Google trying to take over the world? Ladies and gentlemen, I give you stage 3 of the plan.

Google Inc. plans to spend more than $1 billion on a fleet of satellites to extend Internet access to unwired regions of the globe, people familiar with the project said, hoping to overcome financial and technical problems that thwarted previous efforts.

Great, now the aborigines in rural Australia will be able to buy a 6 pack of lifewater for only $4.99.

That's a lot of direct data mining for Google!

Also I hope it is fast enough and available in the US to force cable companies to improve speeds/conditions.

This really has nothing to do with competing with the broadband providers.

I applaud google for trying to bring internet access to every inch of earth.

It shows Goog is greater than god. You'll be stranded somewhere one day and say Thank Goog I have internet access.
