Well? What are you waiting for? Go plop down $1,500 so you can join the ranks of all the people asked to leave restaurants, stores, malls or to just be randomly assaulted on the street. ;)

Last week we told you we'd be trying out new ways to find Explorers. Well, we weren’t kidding. We learned a lot when we opened our site a few weeks ago, so we’ve decided to move to a more open beta. We’re still in the Explorer Program while we continue to improve our hardware and software, but starting today anyone in the US can buy the Glass Explorer Edition, as long as we have it on hand.

If I need a camera on my head I'll go with GoPro and the rest of the features on my heads do not want. :p

$1500? No thanks. I'd much rather spend $350 on the Oculus Rift DK2 if I'm going to become a hardware beta tester.

Depending on who you are and what you do that $1500 could repay itself very very quickly.

There will definitely be some porn actors sporting one of these.

costs 80 to make, 1500 to own. And talk about a velvet shackle.

...and I recall iPhones regularly costing only 1/4 of their retail price to make in parts. Even if Google Glass is $300-400 for the consumer version, it will be nothing new in the tech world. $1500 is for a developer version and is intentionally priced that way to keep out general users. If that sounds ridiculous, keep in mind that many companies (including Google) keep their individual stock prices high to keep out trivial investors.

I'm personally not at all into Google Glass and might even be considered "anti-" but I want to say my friend was on a camping trip the other weekend and got to use one his friend had with him, "exploring." So they are already out there at large and people are buying them.

Well, with $1500, you can get a really expensive high-class escort, or thirty $50 dollar ones.

Between the above and Google glass, I don't see how you won't get screwed.

People too lazy to pull a phone out of their pocket? I don't get the point of it.

When does Google Glass STOP being a "developer version"? If it's for sale to ANYONE, then it's no longer in development and becomes a final product.

If they don't lower the price soon, Google Glass will suffer from the same problem the Segway has: it's far too expensive for what it does.

There are plenty of ways to look like a douche for free. You don't need to spend $1500.

Well, it must have been screwed to his head then.

You have to remember though that these Google Glasses aren't some cheap china made $80 glasses. (they are)
These are $1,500 a piece! They stay on your face while skydiving just by purely being awesome. :D

I don't know why I want one of these so bad. Too bad its US only.

I'd probably be in at $500-$600 if it receives useful app support (seems to be ramping up slowly.) I think Google is keeping this in Beta mode because they don't want to release a cool piece of hardware with poor or non-existent software/app support. Probably a pretty smart decision.

I expect there will be a redesign and price drop when this becomes an official product. Hopefully this product makes it to final release.

Is there really a market for this?

I for one would not be talking to anyone with them on.

Remind me to keep my phone in my chest pocket with the camera pointed outward when I speak to you.

I have an idea. Google can pay me $1500 to wear them.

Am I the only one that just doesn't think this is that cool?

I am waiting for the article about a guy who had to wear glasses getting Lasik surgery. After the surgery....he buys and wears google glass.

I would use it for mountain biking or hiking. The heads up GPS overlay would be very useful aswell as being able to read texts and have my hands free.
