When YouTube warned this guy about "further copyright breaches," I'm sure they thought this fight was going to go totally different than the way it did.

Law professor, Creative Commons co-founder and advocate for copyright reform Lawrence Lessig has agreed to receive damages from an Australian music label. Without considering fair use Liberation wrongly had some of Lessig's work removed from YouTube and threatened to sue - it didn't go well.

these stories are great

Yeah this almost as funny as Monster Cables trying to sue a guy for tartan sleeved cables, when the guy created them in the first place, and was a patent lawyer for 20 years prior to being a cable manufacturer.

It's kinda good and bad, on one hand he wins, on the other hand the company settled so the court didn't weigh in on the issue, thus any other company can do the same and most people wouldn't be able to afford standing up to their rights.

If he was going to let them settle he should have had them agree to publicly state they would pay millions in damages and in fact only pay a couple of grand... you know like how most of these cases are settled.
