GTX 680 Classified $479 after MIR (48hrs only @ Newegg) 6/10

Maybe if it was the 4 gig card at that price. I'm not sure these companies understand that there are new cards out with similar or better performance for less money...

Outside of that, thanks OP

Still a bit pricey.
In my experience with th 680, > 2gb is most relevant for Sli setup at resolution higher than 1440p.

The reviews I saw said that a single card at high resolutions worked pretty well. I'm not deep enough in the $$ to be looking at doing an SLI setup (if I had enough for two of these, I'd buy one and get a Haswell setup.), but as I'm running 2650x1440 on an aging setup and a 2gig card, 4 gb of Vram would be nice. First I want to see what the 4gb 770's are going to be priced at and what sort of effect that's going to have on the used and old card market.

I highly doubt that the GTX 680/770 has enough power to be able to push more than 2GB under a single card setup.

Well, feel free to go read the reviews. With the GTX 680, the 4gb card used the extra memory at 1440p and performed better than the 2gb card. Technically well versed sites like HardOCP rigorously tested the cards and came up with those results and I'm not smarted and more knowledgeable about hardware than they are so I'll take their word for it.

I'm having a hard time finding the GTX 680 4GB review you're referencing. Maybe it's because I'm on my phone. I literally just spent my whole lunch hour searching on my phone and failed. Could you please post the link? Thanks.

I recalled incorrectly, but a quick search shows that it was a 670 sli review here http://www.hardocp.com/article/2013/01/14/asus_geforce_gtx_670_directcu_ii_4gb_sli_review/9#.Ubdv0_msiSo which found that, while the 670 was underpowered for higher resolution gaming, in sli sufficient to process the information, the extra VRAM did help. The GTX770, being closer to the 680 in temr of processing power, ought to be able to better utilize the extra memory when outputting to a high resolution display.

You're right. According to the [H] review, there's no significant benefit to 4GB for a single display all the way up to 1600p.

The Bottom Line
This evaluation has concluded that there isn't any advantage, even in the latest games, to using an ASUS GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU II 4GB video card over a 2GB equivalent for a single-display gaming. We can honestly say now that 2GB is "good enough" even in the latest games like Far Cry 3 and Hitman and Sleeping Dogs for single display gaming on a GeForce GTX 670. The fact is, the performance isn't high enough with a GTX 670 GPU to allow the advantage of 4GB of memory at 1080p or 2560x1600. When we also consider the ability to run NV Surround resolutions off of one video card, the GeForce GTX 670 GPU itself again is not powerful enough to benefit from the 4GB.
