Remember when RapidShare offered unlimited storage to people using its free service? Yeah, about that...

RapidShare has announced a business model change that is causing panic among its non-premium users. After offering unlimited storage space to customers using its free service, the Swiss-based file-hoster is about to implement tough new limits. This Wednesday all free customers will be limited to just 5GB of free storage if they choose not to pay for a premium account. All excess files still hosted will be deleted forever April 3.

Talk about a reversal in policy...

That's like...
EA: We are going to make SimCity offline capable.
Two weeks later...
EA: Wait, never mind. We were intoxicated at the time, we are withdrawing that.
 
indeed rapidshare sucks, especially for free users.

they provide free users with only dialup speed. seriously, it's that slow.
Brings back bad memories of the 90's.
 
rapidshare use to be good but in the past couple years the changes they have made have been horrible and lead people to use other alternatives, and this is another one of those changes.

I would say more along the lines of EA changing their mind 2 weeks after release. This is pretty darn close to extortion, sure we will host all your important files...now that all your important stuff is in our hands and we have a throttled download for free customers, we are going to threaten you with either you pay us or we randomly delete any files that exceed our new free 5GB limit.
 
Hopefully people were smart and didn't trust online storage like it was on their computer.

yup, it would be one thing if they said "oh hey we are now limiting you to 5gb, if you are exceding this then you cannot upload anymore till your under 5gb" and just left current data alone it would be fine. But to randomly say oh by the way if you have over 5gb kiss it goodbye? Thats stupid.

Even microsoft doesnt do this with their cloud on xbox. If you let your gold lapse they just stop you from upploading to it, but they leave your stuff intact and let you pull from it.
