That link goes to a Joe Rocket helmet. Reviewers say the Joe Rocket is very loud...
This subforum is turning into a slick deals copy and paste forum ... I don't know why we don't keep it hardware related.
the gift card cant be used for the same purchase.
would have liked having a spare helmet for karting for $9.99 though...:-\

When Kyle's fine with it and most members are okay with it too, then I see nothing wrong with it![]()
I'm not sure but isn't that quite a lot of money for a helmet? Would you say this helmet is mainly for crotch-rocket streetbikes?
I'm going to be needing one this this summer as I anticipate getting a Quad and hitting the trails since my brother bought a cabin in northern Michigan. The AFX-90 mentioned in the post above is less than 1/3 the price which seems to suggest this is a pricey helmet. Not sure if I need an expensive helmet like a Joe Rocket for the trails.

helmets dont care what you are riding

YES, they do. Some helmets favor a standard touring ergonomic seating while some favor the tucked or forward lean of the super sports.
The difference isn't usually enough to make you change your mind, but the difference comes in in vent placement and the ventilation set-up.
For street riding, I see no reason to go above a DOT $200 helmet unless you really like a graphic or it's carbon fiber and you just want that exotic style.
The $200-300 can be sort of a grey area. The Bell RS-1 for example, great reviews and everyone says it is a better buy at the price than the $300-$400 members of the line.
I am far from an expert, but I research my a$$ off on helmets since it is the most crucial piece of gear from comfort and fit/safety.
Helmets DO care what you are riding. Street bike helmets are not designed the same as dirt. Dirt are designed to take multiple impacts and still be usable.
The closest I can see is the difference between DOT and Snell testing. It's been a while since I rode, but if I recall correctly, DOT focuses on multiple single impact, while Snell focuses on multiple impacts in the same location. So if you were to use a helmet, say, in a car with a roll cage you planned on flipping, you'd want the Snell helmet. If you wanted something which would protect your head as you're rolling across the asphalt, you'd want the DOT helmet. Many helmets these days are both DOT and Snell approved.Could some one direct me to where MX helemts are meant to take more hits than street helmet? I can find anything on it.
If an MX helmet is DOT approved...there is no reason it is better.
The issue comes in with the visor and the goggle need. Right now dual sport street helmets are on the rise, the visor is redesigned for the high wind speeds on the street, buffeting and head checks.

Yea, it's legal to sell non-DOT helmets and some states to require them to be DOT. Illinois is sad and we don't even have a helmet law. I think it's fine that it's up to the rider though, natural selection at its finest.
You in IL too? It's pretty sad how many squids there are here...
Meh... the price of my head is more then $10. I always stuck with Shoei RF1000's. Loved them for fit, feel, noise and quality.
edit: this was about 5 years ago when I use to ride.
Yea, it gets pretty bad in the Summer. Not even just no helmet, no jacket and shorts too...I just shake my head.
I'm near Chicago, south side suburbs so the frequency has made me expect it every where now, lol.
Is this dead? I am going to buy some pants soon so I might as well buy an extra helmet for 10 bucks while I am at it. I don't see anything about a gift card though.
A more expensive helmet doesn't necessarily provide better protection...
In more ways than one it does but, even Companies like ARAI, which hand makes their helmets, have gone the way of other Companies and are now charging outrageous amounts of money for their stuff.
