I got around $150 budget at the moment. Anything is better than what I got which is nothing(but headphones). Current sound card is Asus Xonar DX. I was thinking of going with a set of Z623's and calling it a day but doing research I came across alot of talk about T amps and bookshelf speakers and found this combo.

Speakers:

Amp:

Sub:

Would that be a better combo than the Z623's?

The T-Amp and speakers will generally be better, just by virtue of many cheap bookshelf speakers and subs generally being better than the cute little plastic boxes that Logitech speaker sets use. In addition, its easier to upgrade down the line, such as adding a better amp, bookshelves or sub.

If you have the desk space, go with the t-amp + bookshelves (+ sub).

Having just gotten rid of my Logitechs and gone to a T amp and a set of Dayton Audio's, I say skip the plastic junk.

its not even going to be close. go with the pioneers.

also the pioneer SW-8 is very cheap right now.

would the sw-8 be the better option? Would any of you change the t amp or speakers? I wouldn't care to give a bit more if its worth it.

Having owned a set of Logitechs for 48 hours (before returning to store), I'll second this.

there is no use upgrading the amp without going up to about $100+

invest in a better power supply for the amp, that is its weakest part.

This. Replace it with a 6amp 12volt power supply and it will sound much better. They ship with a 2amp Vonage power supply that just doesn't have enough ass.

If you are getting a better power supply for the lepai

you can get a bunch for $10~ish but if you want a UL listed one.... it is going to be like $20~

I got a 12V 6A power supply for my SMSL SA-S3.... I chose to look only for UL listed models for safety and insurance reasons.

my SMSL SA-S3 came w/ a 4a liteon powersupply and honestly it seems to be about as good as the 6A one i bought

the SMSL was about $60 ~shipped bought it on ebay.....

personally I think it is worth the extra money to select a t-amp with better build quality / components than those lepai's (not everyone agrees) but especially if you are going to buy a new power supply for it...might as well get a better topping, SMSL ...dayton whatever t-amp to begin with.

amazon has some t-amps as does parts express (toppings / daytons) if you don't want to deal with china sellers / shipping time on ebay.

i have heard many reports that the Topping TP21 MK II is one of the best t-amps out there

or (cheaper...right now anyways)

for my part I am very happy with the performance and build quality of my SMSL but it did take 2~weeks to arrive from china...so that is worth noting.

if you go the ebay route watchout a lot of the ones on ebay are listed w/out powersupplies ...which is fine if you want to get your own..but read the listings / feed back carefully.

and yeah ++ on t-amp + bookshelf being much better than logitech mm speakers...I have Polkaudio T15 bookshelf speakers hooked up to my t-amp and there sound really good.

i also have Monitor 30 II speakers that sound even better w/ the t-amp but do to space constraints i am using the T15s for now.

anyone know if this will work for a amp since I have it sitting in the closet.

If so how would I hook the subwoofer to it? Its got a com and ohms terminals. You have to wire speakers in series or parallel.

Found the instruction manual here:

http://support.radioshack.com/support_audio/doc73/73142.pdf

You'll most likely have to use the high-level inputs on the subwoofer. According to this post here:

http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?25630-PSW10-with-amp-w-o-subwoofer-output

The high-level inputs/outputs are a straight pass-through (based on the last post of that thread), so the impedance you'll use on your Radioshack receiver for your Pioneers will either be 6Ohm x 2 for series or 6Ohm / 2 for parallel. Since your Radioshack receiver doesn't have an impedance output that exactly matches those speakers, I'm not which is best? For series, you'd need 12Ohm so I guess you can use the 8Ohm or 16Ohm output? I don't know if either of those are safe to use though....

In any case, you'd wire the subwoofer to the receiver using the instructions in the manual for series or parallel (your subwoofer's inputs are the equivalent of two speakers), then wire your Pioneers into the subwoofer's high-level outputs. At least, I THINK thats how it should work. Hopefully someone else can chime in and confirm or deny.
