I snapped up the 49.99 16gb GSkill set that newegg had on sale before I read in my manual that the board only supported 16gb if it was 4x4gb configuration. Memory came today and I thought what the hell, I'll try it anyways. Popped both in and booted to windows first try. Checked both system and CPUz and both show 16gb at 1600mhz CAS 10. Ran prime95 for an hour+ now with no problems so far.
Anyone else tried this? Running the i7 860 on the board.

Your board / manual was made before 8GB dimms even existed so they could not write that they supported dimms that could not be fabricated.. Also since the memory controller is on the CPU it is at least as much Intels success as it is the boards.

True but everything I read after I ordered said it wouldn't work. 16gb max but only 4gb sticks. I'm just trying to find out if this is just an isolated case, MSI's board and/or i7 860. Would be nice to see if others with the p55 chipset could chime in if they could test this on other boards/processors.

Edit: Kyle I know you have this stuff laying around :p

I have a similar MSI board an an i7 860 in my main rig at work however I do not have any 8GB dimms to test.

People have reported similar success with the X58 platform. Some have filled all 6 slots for a total of 48GB.

I know. My point was this came some time before lga1156 and had the same 4GB max statememnts but 8 GB dimms are said to work.
