We showed you the trailer of the upcoming Skyrim: Dawnguard expansion pack late last month and now you get a little meat on those bones via some lucky early players over at Kotaku. This expansion pack will be just a little different in what it offers its players.

Dawnguard is slated to launch on June 26 as an Xbox 360 exclusive. There is no indication of when it will be available for the PS3 and Windows PCs.

Platform exclusives on multi-platform games are downright moronic.

Most games are downright moronic. Skyrim is pretty much following the same release cycle as Oblivion and Morrowind by adding a town and some supernatural ability. Its sad to watch the community save yet another CRPG with mods.

I really want to play Skyrim but I think i'll just wait for the GOTY edition next year. My backlog doesn't warrant me paying a premium price for games.

Why the fuck would Microsoft not have a deal to get it on Xbox 360 and PC as an exclusive release June 26th? I'm assuming they just want to screw Sony like they did with GTA IV DLC.

Microsoft is here and ready to fuck.

Sony is still debating on wether or not he likes girls.

P.C. is the nerd. Lucky for us some chics dig nerds.

That sucks. I thought they originally said they would release it to pc first. Oh well, will just have to wait awhile to buy it I suppose.

F#@k you back, Bethesda. Fu@king douchebags in bed with Microsoft. Really, I don't even want to hear anybody try and defend them. So please, don't. They don't deserve your support. As if I didn't already have enough reason to hate X-box.

Sad? I think I will gladly play community content and say good bye to Bethesda, it's been a nice decade or so, that I've been enjoying their games. But they've gone too far with this bullshit deal with Microsoft. Never giving them one f@#king penny again, ever.

Over reaction much? They did this exact thing with the first DLC release for Fallout 3 and Fallout NV DLC as well. This wasn't unexpected, and it'll only be exclusive for about a month.

A dangerous thing to do. If it rocks, it won't matter. if the xbox players report back it sucks, it will have an impact on sales.

Personally, I don't care much for Bethesda's overall direction because they're taking things away non-graphical elements of their games from one Elder Scrolls game to the next. They used to be epic, open worlds that allowed unlimited adventuring and fun, but since they started making games for consoles, things have gone down the tubes. I'm not certain that becoming a console platform developer was the reason for the decline, but it certainly seems to conincide with a change in the overall trend.

I've played all the RPG Elder Scrolls releases up to and including Oblivion and two of their side games (Battlespire and Redguard) and finally quit after Oblivion. Between Arena and Daggerfall, though the world got smaller with respect to land area covered (all of Tamriel in Arena versus a regional area in Daggerfall) there was a lot more game to be had in Daggerfall. Things went downhill from there and the skill list from each game is a good metric by which you can judge the amount of freedom. Take a look starting with Daggerfall:

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Skills = 37 skills
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Skills = 27 skills
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Skills = 21 skills
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Skills = 18 skills

Sure, of Daggerfall's skills some of them were languages, but those let a player avoid conflict if she wanted. That's an important part of an RPG's freedom. What if my character doesn't really like brawling and is conflict avoidant? I can no longer play that out aside from through stealth. There are other things that vanished after Daggerfall like being able to climb buildings, owning a home (added back with some mods), owning a ship, dragging around a horse and cart full of stuff and so forth. To say Bethesda has dumbed their games down and shrunken their scope over the years is an understatement that does it injustice. We've got loads more compute power and we should get not only better graphics, but more chances to do what we want. We don't though. Instead we get pretty scenery and progressively less game complexity.

I don't really care why that's happened (consolitis, deals with Microsoft, developer laziness), but I'm not interested in feeding Bethesda money if they're not going to make a single player RPG that actually allows me to do anything aside from hit stuff in the face or cast magic missile at a pretty, but generally uninteresting monsters.

Unless something changed, it will be on PC. Xbox is just getting a 30 days exclusive, which means they will see it first.

PC and PS3 will be getting it after that.

Of course Microsoft isn't going to allow them to give a definitive date now to encourage the sales of xbox.

This timed exclusive for the first DLC was known for a long time, it had been announced before the game even launched.

We all knew back then and no one cared, we still bought the game.. Why would you act so hurt now?

You quoted a 360 article. Who here that doesn't have a 360 even reads 360 news?

It was the first link I found discussing it. Here's some more:

This was widespread news, and I had thought it was common knowledge. It was also done similarly with Fallout 3 and FONV.
