Can anyone recommend an SSD to replace the Seagate Momenus Thin drive, which is only 7.0mm thick? I bought a Crucial M4 only to find out that it is 9.5mm thick and will not fit in the case. NewEgg doesn't allow searching on the thickness of an SSD, so I'm having trouble finding a suitable drive. I appreciate any recommendations. I'm looking for a large drive around 500 GB at a pricepoint similar to the Crucial M4 512 GB.
 
Thanks. I'm hoping to find another 500 GB drive in the price range of the Crucial 512GB M4 (around $550). The largest drive I can find in that price range that is only 7.0 mm thick is what I'm after. Of course, I would like a good drive, but that goes without saying.

Yes, thanks. I always buy from Amazon anyway (when I can) because they have a better return policy. But I search on NewEgg because their search functions are way better.

I'm a big 830 512GB fan. As MissJ pointed out, the 830, Plextor M3P, and the newer/thinner M4s are all 7mm. There are some Intel drives which are available without the 2mm spacer, but these are usually OEMs.


I have a 512GB 830 and it's magnificent. The M4 is very fast at 512GB, but that are many drives that sacrifice speed to reach 512GB.

The 7mm and 9.5mm Z height drives are identical other than chassis height. As an example, the Plextor M3P is not as capable at higher QD random performance.

The 830 is not one of those drives which is slower at 512GB than 256GB.

Thanks for the great info! That is very helpful. So now I have to choose between the 830 and the M4. Tough choice... :)
 
Well, the 7mm M4 512 is considerably more expensive than the 9.5mm versions. The 830 fluctuates in price a lot though. It was on sale for $640 a few days ago, and now it's back up to $780.

The 830 512 is $779 or $799 depending on whether you want the desktop, laptop, or bare installation kits.

The 512GB 830 is $677 at the two etailers listed above and they're both reputable. Buydig and Buy.com both have 45 day return too. You have to pay shipping back but they both have no questions asked policies like Amazon. Also buy.com has a $10 of coupon for first time customers.
 
For $677, I would go with the 830. But I already did, so I'm biased :)
 
Thank you! I went with the M4 from Amazon for $629 with free shipping. I almost went with the 830, but I have some other Crucial M4 drives, so I decided to go for uniformity :)
