Attention School Districts around the country, if you do not understand how Twitter works, you have no business using it!

School officials in the Adirondack resort town of Lake Placid are apologizing after a spammer linked to pornography sites from the district's new Twitter page.

It didn't seem to say in the source article what actually happened (faux news :D). A lot of places were intially saying the school's twitter was hacked (twacked?):

...the inappropriate content was not posted on the district’s page but rather by some other Twitter account holders with inappropriate profile photos “following “ the posts on the Lake Placid School’s Twitter account.

Privacy settings that need to be manually activated were not. Including a setting that requires the host of the page to individually accept “followers” to the page. Without this setting turned on, anybody with a Twitter account would be able to “follow."
